Default Gearbox question...

My car is a 2003 WRX, will an STI gearbox drop straight into my motor replacing the 5 speed one?

should be no problem, not done it yet but according to the pros you can even keep your 5 speed clutch

are you going to tell us what engine mods you went for in the end?

Hi Rich, will enquire more about the gearbox as I think mine won't be lasting too long...

I went for this: https://www.scoobynet.com/much-power...d-t540225.html

Running 334BHP with around 300ftlbs torque... when I'm used to the power and clutch, I'll upgrade the turbo so should be near the 380-400 mark then...

Performance wise if you mods take it over the 350 Lbs Torque and don't do Track or sprint work you'd maybe better of sticking with a 5speed box (Athough the 6sp is supposed to be stronger)

Slighty longer gearing can be useful when following traffic or in long open corners, saving a gearchange during manouver. IMHO

Maybe weigh up pro's and con's first.

Sorry back on Topic is the Propshaft different lenght?

The reason I ask the initial question is, I think my gearbox is on its way out, and I was wondering what the best options are of upgrading it so it will be able to take upto 360 or 380 ftlbs of torque...

Sorry I'd not seen your post If replacing it anyway I'd seriously consider it an Option as the 6sp is much stronger. My mate Preza Si(2.5L Type R) is also considering 6sp but as a performance option, which why I said "Try it before you convert"

TBH I found with a Classic 400lbs a 6sp in maybe a bit to "Manic" through the low gears changes and felt it didn't fully utilise the engines high torque, But certainly was fun
