the impreza is well know for it's understeer characteristics straight out of the box..
uprated rear droplinks and ARB and the Impreza would have licked it...

Yeah, but the evo didn't need anything to beat the wr1 matey!!! There's no shame in admiting that scoobs are inferior to evos mate.

Can I just point out that Jezza and hampster both prefer the Subaru!
And that Evos are usually quicker out of the box on a track, but scoobies are nicer to drive (and quicker) on typical potholed UK roads (which is where most of these cars spend the vast majority of their time)
And our cars sound much nicer!!
No shame in the Evo boys admiting that either!!

Well having owned two scoobs. A bugeye wrx..(how slow was that?) And a classic ppp (excellent car). I now drive an evo VIII having had a V. Sorry boys but there is no comparison between them!!! I would have an evo every time. Simple things, how long for you to change oil and filter, plugs, air filter? On the evo you don't even have to jack the car up!!! 20 mins job done. How many scoobs to evos on our roads? 10,15,20:1?? you can be stealthy when you want (no flat four burble) though with the blitz on it is hard...LOL. Also I think you would have to agree that evos are far more resiliant, and respond better, to tuning. Still like scoobs, but I love my evo...

Subjectively one may be much better of course. I didn't really like the EVO 6 I drove, the way I liked my classic

Does the twice monthly servicing on the Evo viiiiiiiiiiiiiiii not also include fiddly
work to do with the "anti yaw contol" on the suspension ? Would you really want to service an Evo yourself and not have it's jet engine checked by bona fide RAF personnel ?!

It was probably dialled in by some well meaning engineer.
..just to say that I think overall the Evo is quicker, the fact that you can get 350++++ with few mods in an Evo really does open up the chasm between the sub and evo
I would like an Evo but something is niggling at me, ie the fact that people only seem to keep them for a few k. Perhaps the fantasy is bettter than the reality???

have had two imprezas, one wrx and a 22B for 6 years.
the evo 8 fq 300 is the best car I have ever owned by a long shot and brings a serious smile to my face everytime I drive it.
I think a new shape impreza especially in spec c guise might hdot he same, but I just hate the look fo the things and the fact that it takes a stripped out spec c to be as light as a normal evo gsr.

Ah the "old evo v scoob" debate.
http://www.mitsubishi-cars.co.uk/evo...sp?strCar1=QE3
Nice specs but its not that much lighter than an 05 car, its only "just" lighter than a standard JDM STi and its 50kg heavier than a Spec C.
Handling.... no contest here, the latest impreza does it better
Ive been up against one of these on both the road and a runway, 03 car v 05 car, the Spec C out handled said evo 9 320, it gripped better, no under steer and was as quick if not quicker than a "tuned" evo.
Interior.... ah mitsubishi have it here, the recaro's just hug you in all the right places, and thats as much as you can say for the interior, the rest sucks, if you thought that subaru had cheap interiors you aint seen a mitsubishi one.
Reliability.... yup subaru's have their problems but then they didnt have the problem of not recalling over 10,000,000 cars with serious defects, this included evo models upto the evo6, really reliable...... NOT
Servicing, has it on that link, 10k for a uk subaru, 4.5k for an evo.
Rarity, evo has it here.
VFM..... neither one unless you get a JDM Scoob, JDM evo's dont seem to hold their value well at all, neither do normal evo's, its not a performance market anymore with high fuel prices and running costs so residues suffer on BOTH marques (equally as bad).

the rarity of the Evo is a big plus for me the other plus is that the later FQ models are seemingly so easy to get up to close to 400bhp for little money
I love being able to overtake with ease so big power and acceleration is big plus for me
still love my Scoob though

I think too many people compare a tuned EVO to a WRX or a standard STi both of which and i'm sure you'll agree a bit feeble - not many people (well i dont know any) that dont tune their STi's so it pushes 300bhp+. i.e. PPP or similar
a few choice mods sees this figure climb to the 350 mark - more than a match for most EVO's - as soon as you look at the Spec C's then (most) EVO's dont get a look into it.
Ok maybe a tuned EVO maybe a tad sharper on the track and i do mean a tad but 99% of people spend their life on the road, where a Subaru is a lot more complient than an EVO.
Bumpy roads oop North - Give me a Subaru evertime

value for money for me. I loved both my Evos but they did cost a fortune to run and trying to sell on is virtually imposible as nobody wants them unless they are very cheap. My yellow 8 was immaculate condition, totally pristine and unmodded and I ended up losing £7k in 18 months on a car that 'only' had 34k miles on the clock, but in Evo terms thats a death sentence.
My type R is just as quick, handles almost as well, in fact I swear its better than my 8 in some cases, sounds far far better and it cost me £8k compared to £23k. Plus I only have to have it serviced once every four months not every 8 weeks.
Having said all that I do love the new 9 mr360 - thats does look something else!!

This is my first post here, so be gentle&patient and tolerate my poor english...
Guys, make a search on a google for tsukuba lap times...or sth like that.
Me myself, had watched some movies from youtube, the spec c, makes its way up from starting last off the line, mates....thought EVO GSR beat ****tte out of OEM sti...on that track, nice video!
The spec c was making ground on either two RS EVOs that started ahead of it...whether 5 speed tranny or 6, doesn't matter - spec c owns them....
This is all stock to stock staff, but, tunning concerned - EVO is far more superior that any impreza...
just look under the hood(what you call it in england? ahh bonnet, those nasty yankees...)
the turbo is placed right were it should be...very easy to make an equal length header - pipes to the turbo...since the path is shorter, exhaust gases do not get smaller in volume - hence, spool the turbo better...
I know, the subaru is flat four...but this is the reason, why evo gets better respond to any kind of tuning. And pound for pound it is better to invest in EVO thant an STi cos of efficiency. Even thought it is SAD to make this conclusion...from a subiefill...I love the impreza...especially classic one, just ordered an 95MY WRX Type RA STi ver2 from Japan, with 4BB grades...it cos me 6USD grants..delivered here to almaty it will cost me sth around 12grants...
Mates, FHI makes ****ty tranies, which get torn there and here, whereas, evos never do actually...
HOWEVER there is sth in subaru, that will never be an evo's possesion - the boxer rumble, thought it doesn't make the car go faster, but yet a feature specific to subie...and I hate those AYC and other staff that Mitsubishi deploys on their ****ty cars
From what I read from different bbs's like scoobynet or forum.nasoic I just love the way the FHI made their AWD scheme on a RA STi, the one with DCCD and R180 mechanical diff - excelent staff! Althought, for most of us pretty useless on a day to day driving, but awesome feature - respect here.
And one more thing, how come sti in uk make ONLY 265bhp - this is a crap...stick to the JDM import then you, einglish boys&girlz...
And why Jeremy Clarkson, the curly haired, from TopGear always compares STi type UK(which is a sukker big time) with evos?!
Is this a declaration of war or joke that a kazakhstani will never understand?
And,bytheway I feel sorry for the "Hamster" aka Richard Hammond - nice chap! Hope, he recovers well.
DO NOT even try to spell my nick - I am from Kazakhstan, and it is an russian word, used for ANIMAL...he-he
astalavista, I am whatching you

owned both evo's and scoobs:
evo - better performance & handling, too harsh for everyday use, less economical.
scoob - sounds better, easier to live with every day but doesnt perform as well.
both good and bad in their own way.
