I've had a few Evo's with the front fogs wired into the full beam so it shouldn't be too difficult .

There is a kit to convert the front fogs to driving lamps.

Subaru also supply this kit as an option to replace the useless front fogs.

Then your mate is breaking the law and could receive a fixed £30 penalty and be ordered to have his car inspected and rectified by an MOT testing station, then have to prove the remedial work has been done back at the Police station. Driving lights must only be used in conjunction with full beam, and must also be switchable. I bet he's really popular on a wet night with oncoming traffic

Correct.

The swine will fine you £30 for having lights on below the headlights.
I've knocked mine on many times by accident just by turning the key

Eeeerrrrr! You want to blame the police because you can't turn the key in your car without knocking on the fog light switch. Ever thought that perhaps you could be a bit more careful when using the ignition?

I for one hate being faced with oncoming cars using fog lights day and night regardless of the weather.

Correct....
I've had diving lights fitted to my STi using Morette head lamps. We checked the legalities with the local MoT station & also even the DVLA I think as my lights are wired to come on as addition main beam lights plus have additional side lights wired in conjuction with the existing side lights....

There not fog lights!
They are actually driving lights. There not bright enough to be fog lights. I have mine on all the time I have my lights on (including side lights) They light up the road nicely just in front of you
I have seen so many police about and have never been stopped (touch wood) for them or any thing else for that

Wtf are 'driving lights'? Theyre either fog lamps or theyre spot lamps and these may only be operated with high beam headlamps. 'Driving lights' are what ***** call their fog lamps when they want to drive around with them on irrespective of the weather (btw: if they were dipped lamps then they may not be fitted so low...).

Hope that this helps.

Foglights usually illuminate about 30-60' in front of you, and as stopping distances at just 30mph are quoted as 75' in the Highway Code the only thing they will achieve is pi$$ing of every person on the opposite carriageway and illuminating something you will definately hit. There low positioning on the vehicle is to get the light source down low where the fog thins due to atmospheric conditions, this unfortunately also means they have a tendency to reflect off of a wet road surface, doubling their glare potential.
I think trivial inconsiderate motoring offences like this should be fully detered by being a mandatory £500 fine, just for the stupid selfishness of the arrogant pillocks that do it. In New Zealand there is a cover-all offence of "driving in a way which may cause a nuisance to other road users" which has a $650 fine. That'd sort them out

Either way, driving with front fogs on when unnecessary is annoying, but not as annoying as having rear fogs on when unnecessary!!

country roads at night, i have every single light on the fron ot my car.

I live out near many country roads and all are knocked back to dipped beam just before i make a visual contact with them.

I dont know how many times some idiot has been flying round the corners and hasnt noticed the oncoming car (ME) and cut the coner on bends.

So, with a little luck, lighting every possible thing up near me, he will notice the oncoming light and slow down, far too many deaths on the country roads near me. So im sorry if some of you dont aggree, buy at least im alive
