How fast are scoobs REALLY... 0-60mph
Instead of brochure racing how quick are they with drivers?
Real world:
7 Subarus turned up in various states of tune to an event last year. Their BEST times recorded on the day were:
4.98secs
6.36secs
6.48secs
6.73secs
7.36secs
8.11secs
Faster M3s, VX220s, Elises, 200ZX and a Clio (all bar the 1st time)

do you think they quote those times when asked how fast their cars are or the brochure figures?

looking at it... im assuming the 4.98 scoob was a fairly well tuned model and not a standard STi? maybe even a lighter classic?
Bearing in mind Subaru quote 5.2 secs for their 'newage' STi.. 6.3 secs maybe even 7 is feasable dependant on temperature at that time surely?
I mean, if its roasting hot and a well tuned (possibly a classic <--tbc) can only just make a smidge under 5 secs then surely that says something.
If they are all standard please proceed to ignore this post

Could be a few factors here, the owners may not want to waste a clutch and a replacement at over 700 quid, well you could probably buy that clio
Give me someone elses car and ill do the fastest 0-60 times you have ever seen, use my own..... im a little more sympathetic.
See where im going?

Also, how poor are Subaru clutches really? Heard a few horror stories, how long do they generally live for?
Good thread!

If you arent prepared to launch the car then it doesnt do 0-60mph in 4.x or 5.x secs.

Thing is that you'd probably find that 2wd drivers also can't match the magazine figures.
Having said that, Burnsie is correct about drivers attitude to their own cars/clutches. A scoob will probably loose almost a second off its 0-60 if it doesn't use its 4wd advantage.

To be honest the smell of clutch doing a 4,500rpm side step on the clutch pedal has put me off a bit - with PPP mine's supposed to do 4.6.......dont think I've done that too often, I wait till clutch bites before really booting it - probably only getting 5.5 or 6.0............
Still plenty quick enough to see off the opposition (and clutch will last....)

I can consistantly get sub 5 secs on my MY95 UK scoob. In a lower level of tune (pre fmic, induction and a little lower boost) I managed a 4.67s 0-60 measured with an AP22 performance meter. I launch at 5500rpm and lift the clutch smoothly while feeding in the power. I also flat shift into 2nd. This is with a 4.2kg flywheel.
