Decats.......what's the game?
Had mine decatted by a "trusted Subaru Tuning Specialist", about three years ago, being reassured by them thet it would be OK for the MoT as long as I took it to them.
This year, no dice, "we are pushing people towards a sports cat, not full decat".
Shame they didn't say thet when they took £600 off me for the decat!
Anyone PM me with a solution, please? And no lectures thanks.

£600 for a de-cat? Were they wearing a mask?
Depending how old your car is it may not need a cat for the MOT, or you can get hold of a cat (ebay has a constant, cheap supply) and swap it in just for the test.

Take it you didn't keep your original exhaust then?
The alternative is a sports cat in the downpipe. But they're not cheap, around £500-700 new, check ebay though or the for sale here.

Alcazar, was the £600 for a full exhaust system, inclusive of up-pipe all the way back to and including the back box?

VERY good piece of kit!
The garage shouldn't have given you the asurance that it would be ok to have a decat with regards to the MOT, but I guess to be fair, the changes to the MOT system do make it harder for such places to "turn a blind eye" nowdays!

It may pass with just the centre cat and that would be easiler to swap out come MOt time.
£600 for a downpipe and centre ..... should be more in the order of £300, even back then (paid £275 for mine back in 2001/22).

As mentioned Scoobyworld is one of the cheapest (but good quality). Is your system 3" or 2.5" cause there are less 3" sports cat about.

Where did the £505 come from?

Just to clear things up. At the moment the Ninja downpipe with Sports Cat is only available for the 1993-2000 Imprezas at £299.99. We will have the New age version of this ready in around 6-8 weeks time at a similar price. The price of £505.00 refers to the only sports catted d/p's we can get hold of up until the Ninja one is released. Not long to go now for 01-05 owners!!!

hi alcazar, not looking to hijack your thread but im in the same position... for the mot should i replace both the original downpipe and centre section (for two cats) or just say either the downpipe or centre (for one cat)...
i heard from a local garage (no they dont wear masks either) that most if not all scoob turbos fail emissions so they just pass them...
if i had both cats on the car and it still failed... what am i too do?
andy - oh its a 95 wrx...

A MY95 WRX (pre Sep 95 I think) is exempt from the cat test, as it doesn't feature on the DOT register as its an import. There is no exact match.
I used to have one, and MOT'd mine on the non-cat test which it passed easily, as its a lot more lenient.
