The P1
Ok i am looking to buy a P1, but even after owning a few scoobs the P1 is still a bit of an entity to me. Trouble is from what i have seen on here they tend to blow up pretty often. Any info would be good i/e is the engine an STI version or an over stressed WRX jobby (if it is i can see why they blow up) plus the usual bumph. Cheers in advan.

I had one for three years without a problem but I would advise you look after it well. Try www.p1woc.co.uk for loads of info and advice plus there are quite a few good examples in the for sale section at the moment. Good luck and dont be put off by some of the clueless idiots that post on here - they are truly an awesome machine.

I loved my P1
I ran my P1 for 4 years and did 96,000miles ran it on super unleaded, same engine, same clutch, same gearbox... just had regular services at the dealer and new boots every 15,000miles...... and it was driven as Prodrive intended.
The only modifications were a K & N panel filter, Scorpion decat centre and backbox and some AP 6 pot front brakes.
I still miss it .... everyday ...... and I have an EVO VIII now.
As said above though get a low mileage one and one that hasn't been 'upgraded' in the engine department.
Go do it !!

I had mine for 4 years, my brother has had in now for over a year. Only thing that it needed was a new battery. Decatted from day one with no remap, over 60k later no problems at all

There is a lot of reports of engine failures at around 60K mark. I put it down to harsh use by owners. It amazes me what friends of mine that are reasonably mechanically minded this is an adequate warm up time. It's russian roulette as to who the previous owners were imo. Lowest mileage possible or recent re-build and be good to it (warm it properly) I'd say

I believe you just have to look after them engine wise and you will have no real problems. Top motors.

Loved my P1. Most focused Impreza I`ve ever driven. Great fun. Had the P1 exhaust, Alcon brakes and 18 inch OZ alloys. Suffered a gearbox leak near the end of its 3year warranty so traded it in for a 03 STI Type UK. Mistake IMO! So now I`ve got a 05 STI PPP, which I like alot. Find a good P1 and you won`t regret it!
