Top mount intercooler
Will an STi 5 intercooler fit on my 96 STi RA without too much hassle and will it be better than the one that's on at the moment?
Thanks
Thanks

It doesn't look like a lot of work until you try to do it.
It is a better cooler if done properly but you will still get high inlet charge temperatures when you use the boost.
My best advice, if you are considering the expense and effort of fitting an STI5 TMIC is to go for a well designed, proven, FMIC.

OK thanks. Will look down that route. I saw a couple of kits on flat4online and it mentioned that certain older cars require a bit of modding to fit them. Would this apply to mine? Also, is it worth doing if my maximum power requirement is about 350/350?

If you do a search on induction temperatures and FMIC v TMIC, you will see that even on semi standard cars, the induction temperatures can exceed 70 deg C without trying too hard.
If you find this hard to believe, fit a temp guage, change out of £50 delivered and observe the temperatures for yourself. These guages come from RandB motorsport.

nice! So i'm guessing it wasn't the intercooler's fault then? Did you have much trouble fitting it? I've managed to find one for 45.00 which is significantly cheaper than the FMIC route.

no it wasnt the intercooler fault,it was the fault of.... a - the previous owner who got shot of the car as he knew the engine was on its way out and overboosing, b - mine cos i bought the first scooby i test drove and didnt know what sounds were supposed to be there and what sounds wernt.... obviously the knocking started a few days after purchase, but thinking about it (and i wont know till i get the car back)there was a odd noise coming off boost, kinda like a bearing spinning realy fast and a bit noisy (i thought it sounded good!).
i have a tem guage in the dash and on in my din pod, could i have 1 monitoring the engine as normal and one monitoring the induction temps????
