Insurance question
Someone went into the back of my mums car the other day whilst she was stationary at a roundabout, I'm under no confusion as to who is liable but what I am uncertain of is the correct process for the claim.
My dad was driving at the time who is not a named driver on mums insurane but as standard is covered to drive any car 3rd party on his own insurance. My main question is who's insurance should handle the claim , as the other drivers insurance will be paying for the damage does it matter who's inurance the claim is made against ?.

I think it works on the drivers insurance. ie your dad as he is not a named driver on your mums policy so will have to persue through his insurer

Thats what I would have thought but how does it work when you are only covered 3rd party , I've always been fully comp so dont really know much about how 3rd party insurance works. My mum has already phoned her insurance who have started the claims procedure (only found out today) and thats when I pointed out to her that maybe it should be going through dads insurance as he was driving and isnt named on her policy, I just dont want her going through with the claim and having the repairs done only to find out that the claim isnt valid , it will be a big bill as the other car has wiped out the back of hers (renault camper meets nissan micra, OOUUUUCH).

Right then , I got my mum to ring her insurance to explain that she was not driving at the time, they said my dads insurance should handle the claim, dad rang his insurance who said they would not handle the claim as his insurance only covers 3rd party and does not include damage to the car he was driving, they then said he would have to contact the other drivers insurance directly to make a claim. He then contacted the other drivers insurance company who told him that they would not deal with him directly and he would have to make the claim through his insurance company. WTF is going on here , both drivers are insured fully comp with legal cover but neither insurance company will accept responsibility for the claim, surely one of them is liable. Does anyone have any experience of making a similar claim and how did they go about it.

I THOUGHT THATS WHY YOU PAY LEGAL COVER FOR THEM TO DEAL WITH ANY CLAIM ON YOUR INSURANCE POLICY NOT TO JUST SIT ON THEIR ***** BEST HE READS HIS LEGAL COVER TO FIND OUT WHAT THEY SHOULD BE DOING FOR HIM AND THEN LAY A FEW ***** INTO THEM

Hey Fallwood,
I work in insurance claims. You need to contact an Uninsured Loss Recovery Specialist or Solicitor that recovers uninsured losses regarding Non Fault Accidents. They'll be listed in the Yellow Pages. They'll contact the other guys insurance and arrange for them to inspect the vehicle (or just ask you to take the car to one of the garages they use) .
The other guys insurers will authorise repairs as soon as their insured has reported the accident to them (some of these uninsured loss companies authorise and pay for your repairs up front).
So you just need to phone one of these companies and say you want them to pursue a claim for repairs to a car which was damged in an accident which (you) weren't at fault for.
hope this helps,
Andy

Thats what I've done, phoned a company yesterday who said that they would handle the claim without taking any money up front. Hopefully everything will be paid for by the other guys insurance. Thanks for the suggestion .

telling insurer about mods
Ok, so bit the bullet and informed A-Plan of my mods today.
The car's an 01 WRX which I've had for a month, apart from the essential headlamp conversion, it has Prodrive springs, Whiteline ARB and droplinks, decat centre pipe and WR backbox plus the all important Andy F remap which brought the car to 273bhp last monday - Yippeee !!
Anyway, they only wanted another £95 , which I reckon is worthwhile.
The guy explained that they normally add 20% for this level of mods, although it goes up if the horsepower is a lot higher.
So, notify your insurer, it doesn't hurt that much !!
