Angry Where do I stand??

Hi,does anyone have any advice or had a similar problem??
I bought bought a 1993 wrx locally by private sale, his add was in the autotrader.A day or so later the engine was misfiring badly, which took a couple of days to find what was causing it,anyway to cut a long story short, the engine is now in bits with knackered pistons and a fooked crankshaft, the replacement crankshaft I've bought new for £370,and HDC SUBARU is doing the engine work.I'm ex to pay about £1k for the work!
And upon inspection,I was told the engine had been worked on or repaired recently,ie a bodge-job.
Spoke to the lad who I bought it from, and checked the receipts,to find that a local garage had done the crankshaft&pistons in march 2006,which he'd payed them £850 for.
So do I have a leg to stand on with the original garage who had carried out the work in the first place??
For doing such a shatty-job on the engine!

dont think you can do anything to the previous garage that did the work as you 1- you didn't get the work done or pay for it 2- most garages only give 1 months warrenty on engine work: normally a rebuild only..!

sorry..!

And paying £850 for a rebuild on a scooby is just asking for trouble. They probably didn't even strip the engine.

The previous owner had expelled £2700 to this garage for the repair work over time.Eight fifty was the last and most recent bill.

Ask him if he would to go back to the garage and ask why it's only lasted 6 month

Can you not get the guy who you bought it off, to go back to the garage and say it's still his, and that he's not happy, and want's it sorting, or at least for them to contribute toward the repair work done by Subaru?

Contact Trading Standards, and see what they say

Yep, I would get on the phone to trading standards! Not being funny but even if they do only give 1 months warrantry on a rebuild, I would like to think it would last longer than 6 months!!!
I think its absolutely discusting!!!!!

Then he was a bit of a plum for going back to them TBH!

If the previous owner didnt misrepresent the car to you, then you have no real comeback I'm afraid.

Sounds like he was sick of paying out for it and just wanted to shift it. Condolences!

As you old saying goes, get the job done properly, pay once!

If only he'd have spoken to someone like David at APi!

In future, ALWAYS get a performance car inspected before parting with your hard earned.
