Default Clean or Dirty

Engines - I've seen some pics on For Sale threads were the engine bay looks absolutely immaculate.

Personally I don't mind seeing a bit of grime and actually prefer to see a dirtier engine bay - Less likely to have been pressure washed.

Do you prefer a dirty or clean engine bay?

If you prefer clean - How do you get it so spotless?

Nice to see a clean bay but agree the grime isn't always such a bad thing.

I always used the CD2 cleaner from Halfords (although I hear they have stopped doing this now-lucky I stocked up). This avoided the needed for any "jet wash" and could be cleaned quite easily with minimal amounts of water.

I prefer a nice, clean engine. It allows you to quickly spot if something is leaking!

Me too, can't think of any benefit of having grime all over the engine, on terminals & connectors etc. Plus I think a good clean engine bay shows attention to detail and gives a clue to how the car may have been cared for.

Do agree though that jet washing / steam cleaning is not a good idea!

lol, same here, if i'm buying a car and it has had the engine cleaned makes me ask y? what is needing to be hidden? engines are dirty things that are open to the elements, its what you should expect

You sure there's enough advertising in that engine bay?

I was being slightly tongue in cheek, I think if I owned something like a 22B et al I would probably clean it a bit more but I just have a standard UK car and to me it is a fantastic car that gets me from A to B quickly, I occasionally polish it but mainly to protect red paintwork from the sun. My last car I must admit I did have a pristine engine bay but it was more of a collectors car.
