Default Newbie hi & help needed

First off, hi all as this is my 1st post, now onto business,i just bought myself a 96 wrx import(260bhp?) lovely car, should have got one years ago!!
Seems to have a Mines Ecu in it,curently running 0.8/0.9 bar, just wondering what is the safe level to up the boost to & wondered about the Mines Ecu as i've never heard of them??
Also when i threw her into a corner the other day in 2nd whilst accelerating it cut out for a second,my brothers old import did this as well....whats that all about.
Cheers in advance

Steve

Oh & i'm looking into buying a downpipe & airfilter as well, whats a good filter to get?
Sorry for all the Q's on the first post

Ok well i have an apexi AVC-R to fit so will play with the boost then, not sure it was the boost cut,as it only happens on hard left cornering when driving, well a bit spirited shall we say & as i say i have a mines ecu (which someone told me was an unlimited boost ecu??)& running 0.8 bar
Cheers

Mines are an extremely well respected (Japanese) Nissan tuner; they specialise in very quick Skyline GT-Rs.

air filter wise, id get a k & n. air filter not induction kit, unless your doing big mods to the engine. personal opinion anyway, but i find due to the circulation of hot air round the filter box its best to keep the air filter closed off. if you get me

How much fuel did you have on board?

There has been some talk about hard cornering with hardly any fuel on board and the engine stopping briefly

As for a downpipe, I (and several others on here) have the Ninja Sports Cat downpipe. Only £299, passes MOT on its own no trouble - done it myself.

Very nice piece of kit, and only loses about 2bhp compared to full decat:

Filter - go for Green, JR or K&N panel filter. I used to have a Green on my old WRX, have a JR on MY00 - both good.

Think i had 1/4 tank in there, wonder why they cut out

Stix; Why would you want a downpipe that looses 2hp,I assumed that a full decat would increase torque/power or are the subaru's different to other cars??

a full decat DOES improve power over a cat system, but on scoobs and other cars too fails mot's a lot of the time (due to emission i think?) - so ive heard from many a person on here. so for an m.o.t you would need to replace the decat downpipe or decat centre section and pop in a cat somewhere... hence the use of a "sports cat". like a decat but with a cat involved with a minimal loss of decat power (in this case 2bhp) and not the need to replace the decat for a m.o.t. day. (as normal cats are quite restrictive)

hope that helps... if it makes sense... does to me lol, just putting it into words lol

Yeah that makes sense, saves changing them over yearly, thinking of getting a scott & hayward or is it hayward & scott?? as iv'e heard good things about these(i know they arent sports catted, but i don't mind changing it over once a year)

Does anyone know where i can get my Mines ecu remapped as the cars fresh from Japan so prob needs setting up....
Cheers

As Choco said above

My previous WRX (M-Reg) failed on emissions, even when I replaced the centre section with original catted section (it had a full decat).

My current MY00 Uk Turbo has Magnex backbox and centre decat section, but I have added a Ninja Sports cat - passed MOT the other week easily.

You could get a Haywood and Scott, but for £100 more (assuming its about £200?) why not get the Ninja and not have to worry about swapping come MOT day?

Hi
The cut you described sounds more like a cracked coil, remove each coil one at a time and then remove the rubber cover, if you find its cracked or plastic is broken off then you need a new one. Your wrx boost limit is set standard to 1.2 bar running a chip upgrade from ESL (Enduring Solutions) which costs around £200 will remap your ecu properly and give you around 1.1bar.
The sellers name is Andy, the most helpful and knowledgable subaru tech ive ever met. Also when you up the boost close the spark plug gaps slightly.
Hope this helps
Phil
