30 mph
Probably a strange one but what gear does everyone use at 30 mph?
I have a UK classic and find it dont really like 5th gear so have to keep it in 4th till I get nearer the 40mph mark
Just to make it seem alittle less strange, the 2 astra GTE's and golf gti I had previously would sit at 30mph in 5th comfortably. Maybe its because they were 2wd, i dunno

I'm normally in 3rd at 30, otherwise the engine labours and the car slows at even the slightest incline (standard 05 WRX). If the road's level and there's no need to slow down and speed up again, then 4th is fine, but I'd never, ever be in 5th at 30mph, especially when passing the sign below...

Yeah, I can use 5th at 30mph, but then I do have a JDM Sti 5 which has shorter ratios
Even so, 3rd works better, being as a prod at the loud pedal will send it shooting over 100mph from 30mph in no time at all

Staying in 3rd gear around built up areas with 30MPH limit allows better vehicle control and more flexibility, less gear changing and less likely to creep too far above speed limit. If it's long flat straight and clear roads with no on-road parked vehicles and with light traffic some way ahead I would pop into 4th and keep to about 33.

Does that work out better on mpg using 5th then?
I tried 3rd today and it seems a bit eager at 30mph so will stick to 4th so I dont easily go over the limit
