Im scared to do it, Servicing, Advice needed
Hi there,
At the moment i have little faith in any of my local dealers to service my car (1 has stopped selling subarus, 1 is incompetent, the other is not too bad but i need to insure the curtecy car and is a good 40 mins drive), so what i would like to do is go to a specialist (scoobyclinic) to get my 10k service done.
Ok to main questions
1. Has anybody gone this route and needed any warranty work done later, that the dealer or subaru have caused problems sighting that you had serviced elsewhere?
2. Will it effect Resaleabilty? (dealers and private)
3. I'd like to rolling road run it while there to see how well she seems to be running, is this a 100% safe thing to do or are there risks involved?
4. Also going to get a full geo setup done, any recomendations for settings on a std MY05 STI PPP?
Any help or advice (or opinion) welcome
BTW i think ive got a MAYOR fault with the car as it has used no oil at all in the 9000 miles since 1st service and i was told that my previous car using .7 ltrs/1000 miles was 'normal' do you think all my oil is actually fuel from bore washing?

lol, get the dealer to do it if you are bothered about having full subaru service history.
i wouldn't be bothered if a car had been serviced by a performance specialist or a subaru dealer as long as it had been done on time using good quality oil/parts if i were buying it.
if you are putting the car in to a dealer they would use the fact that it didn't have full subaru service history to knock value off your car and rip you off just that little bit more
if it was my car i would get it serviced by a reputable specialist over a dealership every time but i wouldn't buy a car from subaru dealer in the first place
oh, he is behind you

Hi Simon,
I 'think' that Scoobyclinic can do warranty work on UK cars with IM. They've got a rolling road and can do wheel alignment. give them a call!
Regards,
Ian

I think the law has changed regarding new car warranties. I'm told that a specialist is allowed to service car and dealer has to carry out warranty work regardless, thus ending the monopoly........

I am in the same boat Simon, I think I use the same garage as you.
I got a letter today saying that my car was due for service, MOT.
They also put in the letter that 24hour test drives were available on certain cars even though they don`t sell them anymore
I`m just a tad confused at the moment.

your slightly mistaken with the MOT rules..................this has nothing to do with it!!
the garage MUST be VAT registered to be able to sort, however, if its a used car warranty then the warranty company can quite legally impose its own conditions on servicing (Mitsubishi do this with their used cars!!)

What think im going to do is do this 10k at scoobyclinic, then 20k maybe at a dealer (more things to do on the service).
I think ultimatly its down to what i think im going to do with the car, if im only going to keep it for 2 yrs, id definatly dealer service it, if i was keeping it 5yrs then probably not, i still keep falling out of love with the car now and then.

Forget dealer servicing. Go to a Subaru specialist who is VAT registered and uses genuine Subaru parts. Last year I took my STi to Extreme Scoobies for the 2 year service and it cost me over £90 less than if I'd taken it to my local dealer, AND Extemes used top full syn. oil as opposed to Magnatec the dealer would have used! (I always supplied my own oil when taking it to a dealer) Now the car is just over 3 years, I use someone who is perfectly competant, takes his time, and uses the best quality stuff - ME. I'll use a garage if specialist tools or equipment is required.
