Default car locking by itself

All

whilst waiting outside the Vets (Downes in Leigh, Essex) my car locked itself twice.

I had unlocked the car, so the kids could get in, when the dog decided it needed a leak. Whilst waiting for said leak, I heard the double locks fall. I assumed I had caught the button on the carkey on another key in the keyring and unlocked the car again. 2 mins later I heard the locks go again, and as I had the key in my hand I know it wasn't accidental.

Was it possible the key frequency was cloned by some local nefarious whale ****e? Or could it be radio interferance in which case a warning to others in that area of Leigh to not leave the keys in the car, else they will get locked in?

If its a Newage, could be the autolock function of the Sigma alarm playing up.

Its a standard security feature.
If the car is unlocked via your remote and the doors aren't opened within a set period of time they relock.

cheers peeps - must admit I've never unlocked the car and not opened the doors. Will test so that I know the time period. Will also tattoo it on the wife and kids hands so that I don't end up locking a set of keys in the car.

Saved me a caffeine fuelled night sitting guard over the car.

Just because you're paranoid, doesn't mean they aren't out to get you

Wifelet was loading the Scoob last week.

She left the ignition keys on the driver's seat, when she came back to put more kit in ,it was locked with the keys on the seat!

I had to get my hands on the spares and drive 50 miles to rescue the Wifelet!

Don't know if this is a good feature or not??

Strange one that as i thought once the door was opened it wouldn't lock,
and as the keys were on the seat, i presume the door must have been opened.
I had better read my manual to check out what is supposed to happen and when, i could do without that happening to me.

That's exactly what we thought.

I can assure you that's what happened. The only thing that may have effected it was, the Scooby had been outside the building for a couple of hours.

It was 6pm at night on a freezing cold night with Snow & stuff, perhaps the temprature had an impact.

Whichever way, we won't do that again!

ive experimented with mine and if the door has been opened it doesnt relock itself however what i have noticed is the short time you have once you unlocked the doors b4 the immobiliser rearms itself.

That shouldn't have happened! As has been said, it's part of the features on a cat 1 alarm that the car will re-lock after approx. 40 secs if the doors (or boot or bonnet) have not been opened. I would suggest you try to repeat the scenario and see what happens? (but be there - not 50 miles away )

If the alarm is set to auto-lock then if she stopped the car, took keys out of ignition, got out, popped keys on seat, closed door then it would lock, this is a "feature" of cat1 alarms that fortunately can be diabled

It could also be the door switch is knackard which means the alarm never picked up on the door opening so locked itself as it's suppose to.

My previous Bug Eye used to do it, but not all the time.

The 1st time it did it I thought somebody was having a laugh with me using the spare remote
