Default Whats the BHP of a S201

Looking to replace my shot engine with one of these.

On paper it states its 300 bhp price - £3000

Or i could replace it with a STI5 280bhp - £1800

For a supposed gain of 20bhp i dont think the additional cost is justified.

Your thoughts folks

Chris

Not sure where you've found an s201 engine - but due to their rarity I would doubt it's authenticity unless you've seen the car it came from. Power wise, I would imagine that the power increase on the s201 over other cars would be down to ecu and exhaust tweaks and little to do with the block itself, therefore it will make standard power when you use it with your existing ecu.

If I were you (and I was in a similar position several months ago), I would rebuild the existing unit you have, as putting a second hand engine into your car is a bit of a gamble, especially if it's coming from a crash damaged car. £1800 would get you a quality rebuild using new/uprated parts.

agreed, 1800 for an STI5 engine is a bit steep, unless its the entire engine, turbo, heads etc....

but surely we are only talking about the short block no?

in which case you could get an STI9 one for 1k.

i think im going to go the rebuild route, i share your concerns re the reliablity of an engine from a crashed car, i've seen the s201 and its pretty messed up.

The £1,800 was for a full engine, i was thinking that as mine have done 83k it might be worth replacing the whole lot.

cheers

£3k would get you a new, fully assembled block from Axis

Are you completely sure it had been in an accident?
It wasn't yellow was it?

Does an STI V5 'Wagon have an 'STI V5' engine...? Not all STI 'Wagons are mechanically similar. The STI V2 uses a standard C-Series Saloon engine (along with TDO5 and Z4 ECU), for example.

Id consider using my existing heads and ancillaries on a new EJ257 short engine (with a new oil pump!).

The STI 5 wagon does have the STI engine, as checked on a friend's car. This S201 was it not for sale at jap performance parts?
