Default Heat Shield - What does it do?

hi

my bugeye was making slight rasping/scrapin noises everytime i put my foot down. The bloke at the garage said it was jus a loose heat shield, not to worry too much and come back later to get it removed/replaced.

So what is a heat-shield and wot does it do?

probably the heat shield round the turbo

it shields the engine from the heat of the turbo

i would get it tightened up rather than removed, hot air in the enigine bay dosn't help anyone

remember that its there, usually for a reason,to shield something from heat,so best to keep it on.

"heat shield" - it does exactly what it says on the tin.

The guy was probably looking up the back of the engine to the turbo heatshield, which is the one most prone to rattling. Without it, hot gasses rising off the turbo will mean that the intercooler can become an interwarmer, which can in turn cause det, power loss or even engine damage if you're unlucky.

Heatshield for the turbo is just above the gearbox area. Mine got a split in it, what a horrible rattle. i was lucky to get it replaced as a post warranty.
Don't remove it. It's there for a reason.

hi guys im getting a similar noise from my scoob (95 wrx) when i set off and change from second to third in particular giving it some beans, i get a horrible rattling noise that sounds very tinny. it sounds like its coming from underneath just in front of me. is it something to do with the turbo again like the guy above or my exhaust.

also if it is a heat shield were do i get a replacement from if ones needed.

thanx kindly gents
