Turbo Heat shield/jacket question

Turbo Heat shield/jacket question
Have been running the car for years now and never really noticed that i had no heat shield on the turbo (yes I am a numptie )
Car is UK MY00 with STi intercooler, fully decatted and VF28 turbo.
Have done various searchs and they all throw up the same agreement that having the turbo shield on is a good thing.Understand that the standard shield will not fit if you have are decatted (which mine is).
So the question(s) is:
* Is is better to get a standard one and adapt it to fit?
* Or are the turbo heat jackets a better fit and dont retain so much heat as the metal shields
* where is the best place to get either and does anyone have one for sale.
Any help would be appreciated.Thanks

I ran mine for about a year without the heat shield on the turbo, then decided to refit it after lagging the down pipe (which should also be done!) and fitting the standard heat shield on after cutting it about a bit to fit. I didn't bother with the bottom half of the heat shield as it was too much hassle to take on and off. The paintwork on my bonnet is all crazed, no idea if this was caused by excessive heat from the turbo etc. but you could do with a shield anyway.
Mine is a MY00 with TD04, you may find that the OEM heat shield will not fit with the VF28, it may be too large to do so. A few come up on ebay from time to time, keep an eye on there. Turbo jackets are meant to be the best but are very pricey. I think Harvey sells them for one.
