Wink Warranty Problem!

I have a slight warranty problem.....

I need an item replaced under warranty. A dealer has agreed and ordered the part, but this is when it gets tricky! The item will be in one day before the warranty expires, and the dealer told me that it MUST be fitted the next day, before the warranty expires. I cannot get the car to them on that day, but they insist.

Does anyone know where I stand? I would have thought that if the fault is detected before the warranty expires, then it would be honoured....?

Thanks!

Seems very harsh, if you have the option I would try a different dealer.

I'm sure I've been in this situation before, and as you say, as long as it's reported before the expiry date you should be OK.

I did try a couple of other dealers, and both were too busy to look at the car before next Wed, when the warrenty expires!

Do you think I will get any luck with IM Subaru?

Cheers

I would suggest that you write to the dealer in question making them aware of the issue before the waranty expires. Send the letter by recorded delivery.

I'd give IM a quick call to see where you stand from their point of view - it wouldn't hurt, then you would at least have their opinion to hand when you talk to the dealer

it should be covered as long as you have reported it by the end of warranty, it will be on i.m's system so it shouldn't matter when the dealer fits it.

tough on the dealer! you have reported it prior to the warranty expiring and so it should be fixed accordingly. Any dealer could feasible say "you have six months left on your warranty, were busy for 7 months so when you do bring it in you'll have to pay..." f00k that! The fact the dealer is to busy, part delayed or what ever is not your problem.

So long as the fault is reported BEFORE the expiration of the warranty you will be ok. However don't leave it weeks before getting the car in, the repair needs completing as soon as is reasonably possible!

Correct. As long as it was reported within the warrenty period, they are legally bound to sort it.

I reckon the dealers talking out of his ****, i had a gearbox go, about three days before my warranty ran out, and the AA towed it to the dealers, the dealer had to get a engineer down to check the gearbox was fecked, they said, as it was coming up for the new registration change (1st august) they were really busy doing pdi's, but would give me a courtesy car, and let me know when mine was ready, it took about two weeks in all, what with ordering a brand new gearbox and fitting it, at a very busy time of year for them, they put in a brand new clutch, gearbox, and oil change, and returned it back to me about two weeeks after the warranty had run out, and the service manager could'nt apologise enough, and said if i had any problems just give them a ring and they'd sort it out for me.
P.S. This was not a subura dealer though.

With my warranties as long as it's had the OK from the actual warranty provider then the garage should have no real problems. We had a customer whos rad blew on a Tommi Mak Evo and it was comming up to the end warranty, he couldn't get the car to us until 4 days after the cover expired but all they need do is have you to sign for the repair and backdate the receipt......i had my money, customer got a spanky new rad, everyone's a winner!!!!!

Give these guys a ring http://www.consumerdirect.gov.uk/ they will tell you exactly where you stand and how to deal with it properly. They will even send you a suitable letter template if required.

Thanks for all of the replies. I will speak to the dealer again on Monday, and hope that they will realise that they are being a little unreasonable!

Thanks!
