What would you choose and why? Also, which product would you recommend for your choice?

Thanks

Thumbs up

Panel filter: I had a ramair one, fitted to my MY00 by my local subaru dealer despite it's lack of suitability, and it drips goop all over the place.

I replaced it with a K&N 57i induction kit. Works well. So far, no known MAF failures with this solution.

See my k and n fitting guide for more info.

Nick.

MAF failure - MAF Metered Air/Fuel (i think)
A failure is £ 260.00 + your car off the road 'till it is fixed.

It appears that MY99/00 cars have a different MAF to earliier cars and that these MAF's do not seem as robust. There have been reports of them packing up due to induction kits being fitted (seem to remember one due to a panel as well). You may well experience warranty probs if you need to claim for a MAF if you have an ind kit on, Subaru UK sent round a memo to dealers to this effect.

BTW i have an MY99 with a Pipercross induction kit which has been in place for the last 18K miles - no problems yet (touch wood).

Paul,

Basically any filter that is oiled is risking the air flow sensor on that era car...many were killed here by people doing just replacement panels, too.

A good cloth or paper drop in one is OK, and some people I know have got away with the full intake, too.

But the oiled ones seem to be asking for trouble...

AJbaseBloke, despite extensive searching and questioning, I found no-one with a failed MAF as a result of using a K&N 57i kit...

Oh..my MAF's being replaced today

My cars got a RamAir panel filter in aswell, but it was fitted to the car when I bought it

My car keeps stalling..maybe I'd be better getting a K+N panel filter in then?

As I understand it, the MAF failure is/was a particular problem with the MY00/01 cars but could happen to any. It seemed to be caused by the oiled foam type filters not the cotton gause ones. I have not heard of any failure due to a K&N being fitted.

Very good choice. Every Scoob should have one.

ITG panel filters are probably the most widely used replacement air filter. Scoobysport supply them. They don't knacker MAF's.
They are probably as efficient as you can get for a panel filter.
They don't sound sexy though
Induction kits do...
So, for performance ITG panel vs induction kit are probably equal.
For max-p sound, no panel filter touches an induction kit.
For MAF piece of mind, ITG win hands down.
Regards
Chuck
