Question

I had an accident the other day and want to claim off the other driver's insurance company. As I was only insured 3rd party on the car I was driving I can't go through my insurance company. I've rung his insurance company and they have said "just send us the details, bye!" Not very helpful unsuprisingly.

So what do I have to do? Is there a format I should follow, what to include, what to say what not to say etc. I have pictures of the car and the road where it happend. I'll get some quotes shortly, is about three correct?

Thanks for any help you can give.

Mark

They should send you a claim form, if they don't offer one over the phone, write and request it. Use recorded for all correspondance. When you get the form, put as much info as possible. Pics etc are a good idea.

Two quotes should be sufficient.

Good luck

I asked for a form but they said as I wasn't insured with them I wouldn't get a form. I'll try again.

Umm, if they won't give you a form then perhaps just write to them giving all the details?

Mention that you are considering using an independant claims firm to act on your behalf. They'll suddenly become much more helpful

On the other hand, if theres no contest that you are not to blame, use a claims firm anyway.

Thumbs up

Mark - as advised above - offer them the choice of working with you to settle the claim quickly and in-expensively or dealing with your legal representative. Should get things moving quickly
