Knocking noise on STi.....sorted ??
I've just had my STi ppp (53) with 29,000 miles on the clock, into the local Scooby dealer after I got sick of a knocking noise on potholed "B" roads and going over rumble strips. 2 different mechanics took it out and could find nothing, so they asked me to take them out. Found a really crappy road and "hey presto" a knocking noise.
After some deliberation, the mechanic takes me into the workshop and says my Prodrive exhaust is catching the bodywork in no fewer than 3 places. It was hard up against the engine / gearbox at the downpipe heat lagging, the middle section was catching and the rear silencer bracket was catching. They didn't have time to fix it there and then as the rear silencer bracket will have to be heated and bent to keep it from touching the bodywork. The mechanic did a "quick fix" by loosening a bolt near the middle section and levering the exhaust over, hopefully that might work.
It took over 3 weeks to book the car in as it has to be done on a "warranty day", and can't be brought back in to the dealer until August which is the next "warranty day". There was no courtasy car so had to walk the streets all morning. Poor service from the dealer if you ask me, apart from the mechanic who was very helpful (you know who you are - cheers).
Anyone had the same problem ??
Mechanic reckons it must of been done on a Friday afternoon !!

I know of loads that have had the rear struts replaced under warranty due to knocking....including mine.

What type of dealer is this that only has 'warranty days' . If there is a problem and it's covered under warranty they should fix it ASAP . What a crap service . I'ld tell them to skick it if I were you

Sorry for any confusion !!
I should of said - is it sorted ??
It's the way I tell 'em !!
The mechanics had a look at the rear struts and assured me they were ok.
This "warranty day" thing means it is going to take nearly 2 months to get a simple job done. When finished I will only have one month left on my warranty to sort out any other problems. Poor service.
I'm the second owner. The origional supplier was "darn south" and probably did a poor job on the exhaust. My local dealer is just trying to put it right.

That's poor service if you ask me, time to go somewhere else if you can.
I had a knocking/clonking noise when going over pot-holes. It did get louder over 2k miles or so. After reading about the struts and top mounts on here, i contacted the dealer. Booked in about a week later, without any questions or inspection. Got the car back and it's sorted. It's only now i realise how noisy the knocking was.

The way I read the post, it sounded like that was what the dealer was saying but asking if anyone had any other ideas what it might be.
