Default fuel cut on standard wrx?

Just a quick question as I am new Scooby owner and don’t know the characteristics of the car yet.

I have a my94, yesterday I took her out for a spin. In 2nd gear I planted the pedal to see what she could do. It pull hard and I saw the redline coming fast (was in second gear), then it cut out, total loss of power for a second till the revs dropped back.

Now I have had this before in my last ‘modified’ jap MR2 when I hit fuel cut. felt and acted the same way.

So this is my question,

As far as i am aware the WRX is totally standard, do this cars hit fuel cut when standard?

PS its not happened since, and the engine is perfect to drive so I don’t think its anything else. just think its strange was normal cars dont hit fuel cut unless played with.

thanks in advance.

Could of been the rev limit, as thats a 3 stage limiter set at 6800 to 7100rpm on a WRX.
If it were fuel cut in 2nd then I would expect it to be doing it all the time when boosting in 4th/5th.

Sparky,

Same happened to me on Friday, had a Mondeo STI up my bottie away from the lights about to go down the slip road to the motorway.

This guy tried to get into my ashtray!!

Went for it, second gear into the red & it cut out with a bit of a bang and, I thought I'd knackered something then power back on.

Mr Mondeo was grinning ear to ear well, it may be a Forester but, it's nearly 263 brake, so throwing cauition to the wind, I rebooted it and whizzed past him onto the motorway at "nearly 70mph!"

Mr Mondeo now Mr Slowdeo looking at me disappearing into the distance.

It seems OK now & I think it is as was said, a safety cut out.

Hope yours is OK too.

KInd regards

no damage to the engine. (not that i make a habbit of speeding everywhere mind)

come to think about it it must be the rev limiter not fuel cut becuase the engine light would have come on if it was fuel cut until i restarted the car (well it does no every other car when i hit fuel cut)

hang on...

yes it the rev limiter, will not be doing that again but just found a nice road and did it again when it hits the red line.

the thing is this car hits the rev limit in seconds, changing gear in first and second is far to quick lol

thanks, Scott.T and Alan MaC, but my mind at rest now.

i am not a red liner but with this car in 1st and 2nd its so easy to forget.

my mr2 turbo import if it hit the rev limit just bounced off, it seems much better this way in the wrx as least you know about it (but could look like a d***, mind you i would better that than kill my engine )lol.

PS, Alan MaC, the same happened to me, but mine was a Golf tring to get in my ash tray!
