Just picked up my 03WRX at lunchtime, bit different after my old TT and Merc 190 E banger....

Having so much fun, let the mods commence.., any ideas, top 5 tips / mods?

Just seen the picture, silver is a great colour IMHO, always worth a quick look at the insurance costs with any mods...... but either way good luck

Seems a good colour, long time since my last silver car so will let you know when I am finished with the clay, cleanser and wax.

My ins seem fine with the backbox but I suppose it gets worse......

Top mods are PPP unless out of warranty, then any good exhaust system with either no cat or a high flow DP cat, with a remap. Whiteline 22mm rear adjustable ARB with solid droplinks. Braided lines, uprated fluid and decent pads. An STi rear wing to get rid of the awful ironing board.

Welcome to Snet and enjoy your new car

Got to improve my nerve if I am to put the front lights in the oven..........

I was thinking about the sills, rough price for a reasonable body shop job?

£100-150

Lights are OK in an electric oven at 100-110º for 10 minutes. Remove all bulbs and wiring and cover the level adjuster motor with foil to protect it a little. IIRC there are 9 small screws to remove, including 2 hidden. One behind a foam pad and another behind the white nylon bracket (2 screws to remove). When rebuilding a bead of silicone sealer will prevent any moisture ingress later. I believe the Philips and PIAA silvered bulbs are quite good now, but the original SilverFusion ones were barely visible on bright days, hence why I fitted LED's instead.

Had my sills sprayed on my old scooby and paid £150!

Also tried to de-tango my front lights and melted them in the oven, So make sure your know what youre doing. I didnt and got someone else to do it in the end, but must have been the most expensive de-tangoing Ive ever done.

to de-tango just use a small blower heater or hairdryer to soften the adhesive. ive done my bugeye and blobeye with no problems at all. there is a guide in the lighting section that i followed a few days ago. peice of pi**
and looks loads better.

Good choice the MY03 WRX.

I paid £190 for an awesome paint job on the sills by a proper bodyshop. I got slated for what I paid but I think this (whilst a lot of money) is pretty much the going rate unless you get mates rates.

Looks loads better but get some flaps to protect them as the paint gets easily chiped on the sill. Particularly if you get a wider set of rims and tyres

Mine started like yours, it doesn't take long to get it looking your own

Congratulations!

Top tips

1) Look after it properly- warm it up before extending it, and let it cool down before switching it off after hard driving.
2) Service it ON TIME (I'd use a specialist rather than a main dealer if you want the best prices and service). Use the best quality oil/petrol etc... you can lay your hands on!!
3) Watch your speed, it's all to easy to get your collar felt by the law in the first few weeks of owning the car!
4) The only modification you should be thinking of now is a decent backbox to bring out the scooby burble. Get used to the car before doing anything else!
5) Enjoy it!

All the best,

Ns04
