Default Parking sensors...

Had the 04 WRX a week now and decided to investigate the parking sensor that was fitted to the car by Subaru 23 months ago (got the receipt). The instructions say the warning sound I hear signifies a malfunction (which would explain why it doesn't work! ) But i've been having a look at the back of the car and I can't see any of those small sensor disks anywhere???? Do Subaru do a sensor kit with hidden sensors? Where abouts would the sensor be and where can I find the fuse incase the previous owner removed it to shut it up????
Thanks

I have the same problem. I want to shut the damn thing up. When the car is wet after just being washed, the parking sensor says it's working (but doesn;t). When the car is dry it says it's not working. Crazy. I just wish it'd shut up. If you hit the back bumper it sometimes beeps and goes crazy. Anyone know how to fix or find it?

Nope. They're hidden somewhere in the bumper. Nothing at all visible.

Glad to hear that! I was cleaning the car today (took about 6 hours!!!!) and found a few places on the bumper where the paint was coming off, I had an awful feeling that the sensors had been fitted, then the car had been shunted, and a new non-sensored bumper stuck on. How the mind can wander eh?!?!
Also, the car has a 3 year warrenty, does this include extra parts fit by Subaru? It's only 27 months old.

Should be covered, however I have known some warranties only covering whats electrical under the engine bay!! Never had any dealings with Subaru on this yet.

you have got the early type by the sounds of it which is a metallic sticky tape stuck to the inside of the bumper this type is CRAP it picks up everything even stones on the ground under the car. subaru did offer the later type the type with the discs that beemers have free to those who had the old type and said it didn't work right. go to your local dealer and get them to check to see if it's still on offer if they deny it ask them to phone parts technical.

Anyone know about the fuse location?
The previous owner spent £268.99 on the system, i'd hope it was covered!

they are usually powered off the reverse lights so pulling that fuse would turn it off.

Why not? I have to park on-street in London, they are almost a necessity.

I'd say if you cant judge your car you shouldnt have a Scooby!

I've been reverse parking on a very busy main road in rush hour since I past my test!

Thought only women couldnt reverse park?

I didn't have them fitted. The person before me did. The problem is that they now just make a daft noise when I reverse to say they don't work!

Its just like auto window wipers, and Sat Nav.. you don't realise how damn handy they are until you don't have them.

Its not about "not being able to park", its about removing the guesswork (which, unless you can see the back of the car is EXACTLY what it is) from reverse parking.

So is the sticky tape that goes into the inside of the bumper still bad or has it been replaced by a later model?
I was surprised it was still in the accessories list of my dealer in Greece whereas in the subaru website I cannot find it (they have the 4 round discs that fit onto the bumper).
Dealer said he has fitted the strip that goes to the inside of the bumper to a few Foresters without problems.
I was hoping to avoid drilling through the bumper but if the strip is crap I will have to fit the other type.
Thanks for your help.

I don't need no sensors: for me, parking is just three easy moves . . .

1. Just keep going backward until you hit something.

2. Then go forward until you hit something.

3. Then back up 2 feet.

Never fails.

Sensors . . . who needs 'em? And I've saved myself £268.99p too!

Go to Halfords and get the number plate sensors - they are quite good and only about £100 plus no holes in the car.
