My friend is picking up his new scooby in March 02 some time. What he's wondering is, when he registers his car, can he choose from a selection of plates?? Basically he wants one with his surname as the last three letters. Had a look at newreg.co.uk & there is that number plate there. But at a costs of £500. Any recomendations?

I keep seeing these plates with three letters, ending in a Z followed by 4 numbers - I believe they are from Northern Ireland.

I fancy getting FAZ 2222, does anybody know if this is poss ?

Can't remember all the zones/counties/letters but I think you'll find it's already been released - I think an Antrim number - FB??

Anyhow, you'll either have to be lucky & find it on a plate for sale site or find the car & buy it off the owner.

Interestingly, in NI, the numbers are dished out sequentially. So when I went to re-reg my Scorpio in NI 10 years ago, I selected the county with the area letters I liked that were currently available (KDZ - Ballymoney, Co. Antrim) & went & re-reg the car. Saw a long queue, so managed to nip in front of the other person coming in. I got KDZ 8116 & he registered 2 cars & ended up with 8117 & 8118 - which would've been much cooler, if only I hadn't been in a rush
