Here's a nice little pic of the HKS Headers (manifold)

Aren't they a work of art

And here's a pic of the HKS front mounted intercooler, fitted to a scoob (not mine):

Question

Nobody interested?

I've already been working on the suppliers, Tdi and Graham Goode have this little beaut down at £815 + Vat

I've also been looking at the HKS front mount (list £950 + Vat)

As a combined purchase I know I can get these down by £150 + Vat and that was me on my own! If there are more of us...well...who knows

I won't be able to reply to any e-mails from tomorrow until next saturday, so don't be surprised if I don't come back imediately to any posts/mails

If by headers you mean the exhaust manifold, then I am interested. Originally, I was going to buy the Power Engineering one to match my down pipe, but as that's £995+VAT plus fitting I guess I could be persuaded as to the merits of HKS

hmmm just a word of caution or two

i've heard one or two cars with headers on and they sounded awful and never ran properly!! all the power went up top. (They were in fact taken off again).

As for the hks front mount, i'd suggest looking at the APS unit from NAM as it seems to have a greater width than the hks and its also quite a bit cheaper to start with.

Pete,

These headers aren't equal length, so the sound of the boxer 4 isn't that badly affected. Infact it was listening to a friend's car with them fitted that has convinced me that I want them (sounds like a race spec 911 turbo on steroids!). I agree with you about about the effects on the power band, but with my car this isn't an issue but those considering headers should keep this in mind...

On the core front the HKS is 600 x 301 x 65. Pleanty big enough IMHO. I've seen several different types of front mount and feel that for what I'm after at the moment if I can get a good enough deal the HKS will be more than adequate...

Cheers for the contribution though

Tim

Chap that's just what I wanted to hear

I'm going to buy the bits tomorrow (with luck) and spend the rest of the week trying to fit them myself

Besides the exhaust, brakes and FMIC what else have you done to the car?

Re. effects on power band

I'm not sure I follow why the low down power should be adversly affected - surely with a turbocharged engine, if you can get the exhaust gasses to the turbo more quickly it will spin up faster and thus improve response

Cool

TKLimes,

The exhaust headers will affect the pulse wave properties of the engine. As with all things, header design is driven by compromise, the length, size and configuration of the header tubes affect the overall performance of the unit to some degree. Headers tuned high flow, top end performance (as I suspect the HKS ones are) will loose out in the low to mid range off-boost zones in favour of better top end power. Most (not all) sets of headers I have heard off will loose mid range torque. You have to remember that you will be driving a road car in the low and mid range zones for a reasonably large proportion of the time.

Moray

Yep, low to mid range most of the time sums it up for the majority of people I think.

However, will the 'pulse wave' effect that you mention affect a turbo engine or just a normally aspirated one? And if the former then will this effect not be offset by a faster turbo spin-up?

Still confused :confusted:

Tom

Well, we'll see how they do affect the car as I ordered them about 20 minutes ago along with the HKS Front Mount

If anyone is still interested in joining me in buying either of these parts let me know as I can still get a deal for a group buy sorted!

Cheers,

Tim
