Default is it worth it?? ((exhaust))

Hi, I have a revolution 3" centre pipe and there 3" backbox on my99 sti, is it worth buying there 3" down pipe as well??

will I notice much difference with it on?

or what route would you go for £200

mods so far are the exhaust, k&n pannel filter, 225 fuel pump, knock link.

thanks ian

Thumbs up

positives: 10 -15 bhp improvement, 500 rpm earlier spool up, extra noise - can be wearing on motorway- ,much better gains to be had after remap.

negatives: MOT hassle

As above, the downpipe will give the most gains of all the decats you have done

I dont mind about the mot, as there are easy enough to change over, i am just worried that the exhaust will be tooo quite for me, on my old v5 sti i have the h&s decat downpipe, resonated centre section and h&s bbox, will the revolution 3" turbo back one be any louder?

£200 for a full turbo back system is a tad optimistic. You'll be looking at second hand systems for that price, but there is nothing wrong with that. I would recommend the full decat and remap option it's the standard scooby protocol

change the 3" center for a 2.5" and you will notice a very big imporvment at low revs...3" is only intended for 350bhp + cars...

Yes gasses do need to get out quickly....

However fitting a 10" center pipe for example will not get the gases out quickly just because the hole is bigger, you will need enough pressure there to push it out.

3" is said to be a tad bit too wide so a 2.5" was just right for any power levels under 350BHP...

I changed my Blitz Nurspec R (3") system for a 3" downpipe and 2.5" center...and the difference in low rev power was unbelievable...

i am ure someone can clarify this...

Hey Da One,

Was thinking about doing the mod's you've done already (K & N and revolution exhaust EXCLUDING downpipe). What bhp did you get from the changes, was the throttle response and spool up better and how much did it cost ?

My car is (or will be !) an '01 WRX, but at least it'll give me some idea of what to expect.

Finally, does you're car pass it's MOT in it's current form ?

Cheers mate.

How would it be quieter if your removing the downpipe and swapping it for a straight through system?

If you don't want a quiet exhaust you bought the wrong system, the Revolution is considered to be one of the quieter systems.

why do you want a resonated center section?

H&S is loud, also check out www.scoobyworld.co.uk - Afterburner Vortex is spose to be good, although made by H&S for Scoobyworld..

had a 3 1/2" down pipe fitted to my RA, feels more responsive but does your head in on long motorway journeys, far too loud

So you have two exhausts currently?

You will nto get much performance by buying another exhaust...you need to have your car mapped

yes have got 2, wanted to get a decat downpipe, but from what people have said so far, it may not be the best idea to go 3" all the way through.

my scoob is prob running 280-300 bhp at the mo, with out a remap (by going on the engine/model number etc)
