Question Cheapskate tuning...?

Hi all,

I've been doing some headscratching on the "you can get ppp performance for less elsewhere" statements I keep seeing.

I've had a look around and anywhere offering the packages are all at least £1350 up. I did a bit of ringing round the other day and I could get a dealer fitted ppp for £1400. Granted, the aftermarket options give more power, but where are the cheaper than ppp options..?

Just to clarify, I've got an MY03 WRX that just has a WRSport backbox fitted at the moment. So where do I go and how do I go about getting ppp power for less...?

Would I be right in thinking that I could keep my exisiting backbox, get an STi centre decat pipe (the one with the resonator still in) which is the same as the WRX ppp one, still use my WRX centre pipe (this isn't changed in the ppp is it?).
Keep the up and down pipe cats (no trouble at mot time and vosa roadside checks).
Then get the Samco/prodrive intercooler hosing.
Then get an STi panel filter.
Then get Ecutk'd.

Wouldn't that come to a total not far off the base figure of £1350 (aftermarket) or £1400 (ppp)...?

Or does someone know how to do it for less..?

I've done a search and everyone says blah much cheaper option blah... but never lists the costs or places to get these parts and mapping done so much cheaper than ppp...???

Intrigued & needing advice because I've got the bug, am out of warranty and nearly skint.

Cheers,
Nige.

1:do a search on ebay there are some prodrive hi flow cat downpipes for sale
2:group buy at the min for h&s exhausts here on scoobynet(just a de-center would do the job)
3:group buy for mapping here as well

all this should come in for less than 1000 and give more bhp than the 1400 ppp

Buy the intercooler piping and used exhaust sections that you want to change. Then look at http://www.scoobypedia.co.uk/index.php/Knowledge/ECU to see if you have the skills to remap it, should be all done for about £1000 less than PPP. If you don't have the skills to remap, pay a professional to map it for you.

Aha... thanks for the replies.

About the intercooler piping. Is it necessary..?

I'll be going the Ecutek route remapped by a scooby specialist if my calculator throws up the right figures....lol!!

you could sneak a green air filter in there as well for your budget i think.
