Will 280bhp in a classic do 160mph!?
Or would you need over 300bhp to achieve this speed? Wouldnt mind having a go if i could find all these private roads people use...

You will probably blow it up
Classics dont like sustained high speed, especially 160mph sustained with the tmic (acutally above 120mph sustained).
Then there is the question of stopping the car at that speed, id not like to do it on the standard 2/4 pot subaru brakes but with 280bhp you should be able to reach 160mph as long as you have the correct gearing.

Someone I know VERY well used to do 160mph+ almost every day in an '02 WRX with a Full (all 3 cats removed) de-cat
Whereas before the car would be pushed to hit 145 as the cats seriously restricted it.
And it got to that 160 quicker than a mates standard '02 WRX would get to 120!
Ah the good old days

UK MY94 with decat and ebc would regularly go off the clock (160mph) on the continent and was still going at 180000miles

A classic JDM WRX certainly won't regardles of HP unless its had a gearbox change or mod.
Only way they will is if you bat it too 150 let it go to 154, then hold the throttle down till you eventually scrape 160, if it does indeed reach it, never have done it never will...
IMO, 0-110 is whre the fun is at, and the Impreza at its best

I worked out a 2001 WRX is geared for 178mph at 7000 rpm in 5th.
Would expect it to pull through to at least peak power, 270bhp, at just under 6000 rpm in top gear. Should be 155mph plus top speed for a remapped car.

In MyWRX RA i 'd probably be lucky to reach 112mph . Haven't had it long but reached 95mph and i was in 5th with only about 1500 revs to go. All above done on private roads of course.

I would say no. A P1 will similar power only manages 149mph max.
You might get a speedo reading of 160, but not a genuine speed of 160.
And it certainly wont do it with an sti-5 spoiler!

mine sits at 160 on the clock quite well TBH and did it while standard (97 import, pretty much a sti with a few parts missing )
FWIW its at the redline in 5th gear when it does this (classic jdm wrx)
i think i once worked it all out via gear ratios and it was supposed to be a true 158 mph???
my clocks were re-calibrated when they entered this country by the importer, i assumed he got them pretty much bang on TBH
it has always been a bit "nippy"
its fun when the cabin preasure goes up and the tops of the windows blow outwards

i have to say tbh, the last time i "tried" this was last year when i nailed my mates new evo8 fq thing from 20 mph onwards (***** would do it from a standing start inclase his diffs blew up )
i have changed the rear spoiler from the mid level one, would be intresting to see if it has made much difference tbh

My Standard JDM WRX even with full decat, filter etc has managed 150 down hill A1079(belive it or not) before the cameras were installed, but it was maxed at that, theres no way it can go any faster with the JDM box, will reach 130 easy then there a wait to get to 140 but it will do it with no problem, generally have to keep an eye on the bonnet at this speed tho, has a tendency of poping onto the safety, lol

Yup, Classic WRXs are 0-130 cars (for those of us lucky enough to own a test track....). I think standard gearing will let you do around 147mph, but my windows start to leak above 100 and I get alot of wind noise, so I don't bother. I was going to fix them, but I see it as a safety feature now...... ;-)

Knock link tends to get a bit agitated at a gps recorded 174 mph on mine.
clocks were showing well past the end of the speedo which is 160.
In fact I had the bollocks to take a picture while doing it.
Obviously I wasn't on the public highway at the time.
but then mine isn't 280bhp anymore either.
