Oh well.. Management suck
I have purchased a top of the range GPS module to place on my dash will give a pin point accurate reading of the max speed!!
Will be an intresting experiment,

I think generally reckoned top speed of a stock 99/00 is about 155mph (indicating around 167mph on the speedo); book is 143mph. P1 has reports of GPS-indicated 167.3mph (IIRC).
I'd just like to point out the fastest I've gone (MY00 PPP) is 120mph and that was on a track day - otherwise normal roads are no place for finding out the ridiculous (and impressive ) top speed of our cars. You never know when you're going to come across a traffic jam (you need about a mile's visibility at that speed) and even very slight corners at 70mph are extremely testing at double that speed. Also cars can become extremely tail-light then too, even with whale-tail spoilers...

based on the below thread i kinda understand why Ellis started this
thread He is only 22 yrs old when i was that age all i wanted to do with cars is drive really fast.
Not taking a stab at ya just trying to understand you
This is not a general across the board conclusion but one for this specific instance and individual.
Does not apply to all young people who own scoobies as most are responsible drivers

Whats the fastest anyone has had out of a UK turbo MY99.. Was coming back from nottingham some time back and i had mine right off the clock(160MPH)while racing a WRX import!
Is this normal? The book figure only gives 136MPH. I can get about 138mph in fourth gear!!

I thought book said 144.........
I got 145 on the clock once on a French Autoroute, 4.30 am not another car on the road and straight as far as the eye could see which was to the horizon.
Would not condone this action under normal circumstances and don't subscribe to the racing culture as it often encourages people to exceed their abilities.

Jesus, I know these are great motors, but 160 mph on the mway...grow up, its not just your life your gambling with...if your so loaded take it on a proper track every weekend and get it out of your system. And people complain premiums are expensive, is it any wonder?????

Still going after a couple of hours so I might as well reply...
Mine's a MY99 Wagon, and indicated 150mph on NUL. There was about 1 and a half miles of visibility and no other cars around, and it wasn't necessarily in the UK.
Why 1 mile visibility anyway? Surely you only need to be able to see in the distance you can stop? Does that take a mile at, say, 150mph?

At 60 mph you cover 1 mile in a minute ! at 120 thats a mile in 30 seconds ! with your reaction times included in this you need a hell of a good view to be able to stop in time at those speeds !

Anyone know how far from the entry to the corners the braking cones are at Bruntingthorpe? I know I managed to get from 140 to 70 on the short back straight between the cone and stating to turn in, it can't be more than 150yards, on top of that you've got a 70-0 distance of I'd guess 55 yards, plus the reaction time, say 150 yards, tops of 400 yards for the whole braking thing.
I'm not condoning doing these sort of speeds on the road, but suggesting it would take anything like a mile to stop from these sort of speeds only really applies if you are playing grand prix legends

Taking into account you are expecting those corners Robertio I think if something suddenly happened out on the road it would be different, your brain would have to register it and then react accordingly - all the time the milliseconds are ticking away and the car is still covering lots of ground.
A mile though, I agree is a bit excessive, but I would prefer that kind of vision than not

This kinda speed is what gives scoobie drivers a bad rep at that kinda speed a dip in the road surface alone can result in splattered brain if you know what i mean.
Do not get me wrong love the abilities of the car but love myself and family more can we please drive with a degree of responsibility even on track days it is rather dangerous.
Let's have fun but in a responsible manner

Trying the top speed in anything has got to be pretty risky anyway as both man/woman and machine are on or beyond their limits. The only time the human side is really tested is when something unexpected happens eg other guy does something or blowout etc etc, the possibilities are endless. Then you tend to find that the odds are very much stacked against the driver.
We bought the cars to enjoy and by all means blast the car to 70/80 etc and relish the acceleration which leaves most competition standing anyway but keep the top end stuff for airfields and tracks or your 3 mile drive.

I fully condone such behaviour from such individuals. Next time you are out on a sparse, dimly lit, slippery country lane, see how fast you can maintain your speed round corners and blind bends.
If the rest of us are lucky enough, you may have a near death experience. This may hopefully make you realise how irresponsible your driving is. No one is an angel, but stop being a Muppet or sell your Impreza to someone with more sense and responsibility.
These threads really pi55 me off, moderators should be deleting ****e like this not customer complaint threads.

Don't normally get involved in this sort of discussion BUT
Bog standard (pre PPP ) PTMW! was accurately recorded in a REVS magazine feature at 134 on the Alconbury 1.7 mile main runway - this was at an indicated 150 mph. There was more to come (slowly & ever so tantalsingly ) but 1.7 miles was not enough (before the rough stuff ) to go much higher...
Further stats are 5.8 for 0-60 & 1/4 of 14.8
That was both FUN & LEGAL

Ahem, I am 22, but I tend to keep my speed down nowadays and not ask about the top speed of my car or rant and rave about how I can go faster (unless I am winding a couple of select peeps up), I know what it is, nuff said.
Don't tar all of us young ones thanks.
Michelle.

Chelle i would not dare do such a thing (especially to you your royal muppetness) but i was just trying to understand his actions.
this is not a generalisation but a mere one off i hope.
so all you lovely young ones i am only refering to this person and no one else. even he may be a real responsible driver in reality but had a moment of an intense adrenaline rush who knows
Sorry Ya'll

Errrrmmmm, s'cuse me folks, I'm 28 and a married man (for the last 2 weeks at least) but I still like to test out my machinery a bit. I don't see how you can be going beyond the car's limits if it is designed to do that speed! And there are safe places in this world to go at 120+ (much as those of you in the south east may not believe it).
Not condoning such behaviour in anything but the safest of circumstances. Equally, I wouldn't go more than 20mph past a school. Driving a car involves assessment of what speed is safe in whatever circumstance you are in, and to say that 150 is unsafe absolutely is as incorrect as saying that if you always drive at 20mph you'll never crash.
