Default Garages Selling Optimax Quality RON

Was in Morrisons in Malvern looking for some 98 RON stuff and couldn't see any.

Apart from Shell, BP & Tesco, what other National Garage Retailers do this higher octane fuel that Mr Scooby seems to thrive on??

Thanks in anticipation.

Kind regards

Total sell Excellium which is 98 ron I believe, although on the higher end of the ron scale it made my car run a bit rough

Thanks,

When you say rough, was it "pinking" and stuff?

Not really, it just ran as if the engine was coked, hard to describe but some mornings the car wouldn't start, almost as if it was flooded!?! but after 1 hour back on Optimax every was back to normal, maybe just a bad batch?

Shell's optimax is 98 octane. BP's ultimate is 97 the same as the "normal" super unleadeds.

Tesco sell a 99 octane at some stores only but this has a lot of bio-ethanol in it. The juries still out on whether 99 with lots of bio-ethanol is as good, better or worse than a straight 98 octane.

Not heard of the total one. In my experience all the other chains, if they have anything just sell "super unleaded" which is 97 octane.

Personally I wouldn't use anything other than Optimax.

It's been designed from the ground up as a 'performance' fuel and not like the others that have just had additives to increase their RON rating.

Agreed, but it's nice to know what alternatives there are when you trusted local source of fuel isn't available

My second choice would be the Tesco fuel as it is Bio-Ethanol and also extremely good value for money!

All the main branded retailers sell a SUL. Tesco and Sainsbury also sell SUL from all but the smallest of forecourts. Morrison and Asda tend not to sell SUL

I use Total 98 in europe when I cant get V-max , I reckon with total 98, it actually runs sweeter than with optimax... but don't know if it exists in the uk

My local shell station sells 95, and v-power 95 which seems to be equally rubbish

Optimax is a minimum 98.6, its also a 95 normal unleaded base plus additives, still seems to work best for us though.

There is no other 98 ron fuel in the UK I know of "yet" apart from the Tesc 99 fuel.

BP's 102 is scarce and expensive.

i have it on good authority that the Total fuel is 97, certainly those cars I've mapped on it behave that way.

Our local Q8 garage has "SUL 98" on one of its pumps, I've not risked it but that's another option.

Yep, I saw results published either on the web or on a CTR a forum (can't remember ) about a year and a half ago which showed the results of individual samples taken from 10 different garages situated throughout the UK and average reading that came back was 98.6.

For this reason I will use nothing else. I'm quite fortunate in that I have 3 Shell garages with a 15 miles radius and until recently had one 2.5 miles up the road until it was closed as apparently it wasn't profitable enough. How could it not of been - I was going there alomost daily!

I've found the BP Ultimate worse than std fuel and my car ran badly for a few days. Thats happend a few times.

There was a revieww of fuels in Auto Express this week and Ultimate fared badly too. Tesco 99 Ron and Optimax came out quite level.

I wish Texaco did a widley available fuel as I've always found thier fuel the best, that Clean System 3 from the early 90s was brilliant stuff.
