Help

One of the kids has kindly ridden their bike along the rear panel and rear door for about 12'

Looks a mess but not down to metal.

Don't want to take it to a dealers as they are bound to want an arm & leg to spray it.

Anyone got any ideas ?

03 plate STi in black (with the gold flecks). Scratch 1/2mm wide & 12' long

Preff in the lancashire area.

Please help

 

Try 'Chips Away' or similar mobile scratch repairs, they have worked wonders on two of my motors (and for less than £90 sorted out a 12 key scratch on my gloss back merc).

If you can feel the scratch with your nail or you have a metalic paint and its gone through the base coat NO fancy products on the planet will fix it.. You'll need to have the scratch filled with paint, there are specilists who can do this for you and make it look good as new.. Dont try doing it yourself unless you are very confident that you can repair it because it will cost you more money for them to clean up your mess.

 

Yep, its gone down to the base coat (Why do they use white basecoat on a black car )

Its also metalic and I want a good professional job, but don't fancy letting the stealerships at it.

Any more idea's ?

 

Get some respectful children and sell yours to pay for the respray?

I've got the same colour and any scuffs or scratch stand out like a sore thumb! The permanent fix is a chips away type repair. Temporary fix - Turtle Wax chip stick (I keep one of these permanently in the car!) Even black boot polish at a pinch!

So, its chips away then.

 

The white is the primer, the black is the base coat and there is a Lacquer on top. The problem is if your through the base coat (the colour) if you try and use a compound you will only be moving around the clear lacquer, on a non-metalic single pack paint you can use compound to hide scratches as there is no clear coat.

 

Good luck, and it worked out well on my cars, post back with some pics if possible, before & after stuff

 

yep, they did mine (scraped bumper against a wall!) much deeper/worse than yours, cost about £140 all in.

Oh, and it's also black (with gold flecks) 04 WRX - Looks perfect now, honestly cannot see a thing.

My Chips Away was in Surrey though.

 

Well, repair finally done and I must say I am very impressed with the results.

Used Chips away in Morecambe (thanks Jim) and what a great job. Looks as good as new and cost £117.5 to spray about 6' of door and door handle and 6' of rear quarter panel. Can't reccomend them enough.

Forgot to take before pictures, but imagine a scratch with a pointed object about 12' long down to the base coat , now imagine a normal, original as new car

I'm glad that the car is sorted, But surely it was 6" and not 6' hell of a differance !

 

The primer on my dad's black 911 SC is pink, that made for some good photos when it was resprayed Hope you get it sorted easily!

Hum, I always get inch and feet the wrong way round

It was about 12 inches all together.

 

Happened to my Mrs car several times. We duck taped over the ends of the kids brake levers in the end!
