MOT tyes/wheels query
Possibly this might get moved but I'll post it here and see what happens.
My car is id going for the MOT tomorrow and it might fail on the tyre treads amunst other things so I was wondering if for the MOT do all of the rims have to be the same as long s the tyre's are the same size ?
I am currently running with 17" rims because a few years ago I damaged one of the 15" rims I had, so I now have 3 15" alloy rims and a 15" steel rim, so could I take the 17"'s off and put on the 2 alloys and 1 steel rim ?
I am in Northern Ireland and the car will be MOT'ed in a Government MOT centre and not "back street" kinda garage (no offense intended) that are on the mainland so I don't know how much difference there is between our MOT's and other ones.
Basically I'm asking if the tyres are ok and the same size does it what rims they are on ?

right m8.
tyres that are on the same axel have to be the same size!
what you should do is have the smaller ones on the front and the bigger ones on the rear. ie 17" on rear 15" on front.
as long as all your 15" wheels have all the same tyre size's on. then it dont matter about having steel or alloy wheels.
hope this helps m8.

Thanks for that guys, I'll swap the wheels later and see what happens, it would of probably failed on the 17" wheels anyway as they don't have enough tread left on them (enough to be safe to drive but just below the minimum allowed).

Back axle will be rotating slower than front, this may cause centre diff problems if on a subaru.
