Default possible fan belt?

i was fitting some new front door speakers yesterday, on my driveway, and after fitting them thought id go for a mooch around and see what they were like sound wise while driving. speakers wer great but setting of a few times from first (traffics lights etc) reaching 2000-2500rpm there was a screaching sound. it sounded like my fan belt, and only did it a few times. it stopped eventually and then i went down to cleethorpes and it didnt do it once.

does anyone think it is my fanbelt or maybe moisture from the air on a hot day 28c i think!!

if it is are they expensive to buy and how much fitting be. il drive her around some more to see what happens today.

any help from people would be appreciated... andy.

Right ..... HOT tip here and absolutely FREE!!

WD40 - spray it on the fan belt with engine running ..... it won't screech again!! It works EVERYTIME!!

Donation to the NSPCC ... thank you

Nah, it evaporates instantly ........ surely you can see it on one of its runs???

Just squirt it on it where you can see it!

It REALLY does work I have used it for decades.

<Pedantic mode>

An impreza doesn't have a fan belt...it has an electric fan

</pedantic mode>

Poissbly having your doors open all day (inetrior/boot light) fitting your speakers etc. has drained the battery, so the alterntor was under alot more load. Thus the belt started slipping.

First need to assertain which belt is slipping...alternator/PAS belt, or a/c compressor belt (that is, if you have a/c). The a/c belt will slip when turning on the the a/c, and stop slipping whne you turn it off. The alternator/ PAS belt will more likely slip with all the eletrics turned on, or with the steering on full lock

It's likely the rubber has gone hard and it's on its way out, check the condition (perishing, cracking etc.) and tension to make sure they aren't too slack. If they are too slack, just tighten them up with the appropriate tension bolt.

i think im lost... erm... well it was just setting off in 1st, only about 4/5 times from traffic lights and/or junctions. ive driven here today and nothings happened. all my leccies were off when fitting the speakers so i dont think the battery was drained much, just the doors were open for a couple of hours.

Just start the car - turn everything electric on - it should start squealing - squirt WD40 on belts you can see ...................... it will stop squealing.

If it doesn't squeal with everything on - then leave it alone.

Then come back here and post how great I am

BOTH of them ...... on the flat 'tops' of them (not on the 'V') it won't harm it on the V - but aim for the flat surface.

I know you know I'm great - just would like to see it posted later on - thanks
