Unhappy RA rebuild

hello everybody!!

i've just had a bottom end rebuild on my impreza RA, and nearly finished my 1000 mile run in. everythings fine but there seems to be a ticking noise coming from the engine like the kind of sound you get when your out of engine oil(there is oil in car). i've taken the car back to the garage but been told it will go away when the engine has worn in(hmm ) i thought the engine should purr like a kitten after a rebuild am i wrong??

thanks

It depends what is causing the noise. If you have forged pistons, or standard pistons, with a little too much bore clearance, you will get a little noise when the engine is cold, but it will go as the engine warms up.

If the noise is still there when the engine is hot, it could be something else, so it would be worth making sure.

I had the same thing i had a new bottom end fitted last year when i was running mine in i had a ticking noise i took it back they explaind that for the first 1000 miles they use a cheap multigrade oil to allow it to bed in after the 1000 mile i then put semi synthetic oil in & it stoped hope this is of help to you

Unhappy

thanks that does help abit!think it standard pistons and its only ticking when warm/hot. so what oil should they put in after the 1000 mile run in? think its using 5-30 atm. thing is that this is the second rebuild from the garage (scooby teknix) the 1st time it was rocking like a washing machine....and was told i had a cracked head and would cost £600 .i wasnt happy and decided to get a second opinion from Pro sport(whom was great & very helpful) and found out it was runinng on 3 pistons (i was steeming)so i took it back and told them what was really wrong with the car. They did the rebuild, now im just abit worried bout the standard of their work!
i still love the scooby but 2 all scooby owners go 2 a reputable garage....(should of done my reseach..) lets just hope the thicker oil solves the problem..... thanks 4 the advice.
