Purchased a tracker !
#1
In light of recent thefts, I've decided to order a tracker. I've gone for the RAC Tracktar 24 hour Protector which at the moment is going for a pretty good price. A one-off payment of £78 (they'll come to you to fit the device) and then 36 monthly payments of £23.50 - this is also tranferable should you switch motors inside the 3 years, although you do have to pay for re-fitting.
I consider this to be a decent deal ... just thought I'd let you all know the prices in case you were contemplating doing this yourself to protect your pride and joy.
Cheers
Phil

Have a look at <A HREF="http://www.ractrackstar.co.uk"> ... after the initial £78 its £23.50 all inclusive which is tops. Their tel number is 0808 100 9991, very helpful and pleasant they were too.
Taken from the site:
- Trackstar 24 hour Protector or Guardian with Lifetime Subscription
- Finance package available at £23.50 per month
Example:
Total cash price £924
Deposit required with order £78
36 monthly payments of £23.50 (=£846) ... this is at 0% APR
Total amount payable £924
When I was looking around, I also looked at Navtrak ( see <A HREF="http://www.navtrak.co.uk"> ) but their initial up-front costs were a little hefty for me at £499 with the equivalent 'proactive' security (ie 24 hour monitoring service). However, the monthly fees are a little more flexible @ £14.95 ( or for 24 months a payment of £335 or for 36 months a payment of £485 ). So, they are more or less the same ... I'm sure both are good.
Hope this helps.

Phil,
I've had Trackstar Guardian on for about 17 months now, at the time they didn't do a repayment scheme so had to shell out for the full whack. Excellent service tho. I've managed to move the vehicle 4 times while it's still armed, and got responses within 4 mins confirming that I know where it is. Out of curiosity I asked the operator to confirm my position, and he was able to tell me my route, various speeds along this route as well as my current position.
Cube.

Happy with mine after initial install problems - false alarms under heavy acceleration :-] due to some voltage dipping below a threshold.
The "Lifetime" membership is the defined as the length of time you own the car it's fitted to. Put the tracker on another car and you have to cough-up again! - for me this means I've got to keep the car for 3 years for the tracker to have paid for itself in insurance savings. Call me a cynic but I hope that the current Insurance discounts are not being bank rolled by the RAC and NavTrak - if the insurance premiums stop being discounted as much with a tracker fitted then it'll take even longer to pay for itself!
Happy with it though.
Unfortunately due to the amount of security around my car (Tracker, Cat1 immobiliser, alarmed garage, etc.) my wife is scared to drive it, whilst there's some positive benefits from this ;-) it's a shame really :-(
