My cars 3 years old in june with 12000 miles on,does not make the noise when driving forward,i think it could be coming from the metal cover plate that keeps the crap off the front discs.

I think you have hit the nail on the head, a simple reworking of the said cover plate to ensure that it clears the disk is all that should be needed.

It's only doing it when some lock is applied not when he is braking.

Possibly a very slight amount of play in the wheelbearing which allows the brake disc to touch the cover plate, or allows the pads to touch the disc at odd angles, and thus squeel.

Oooh I forgot about that.

My brakes went for a while with intermittent squeeling.
Found one of the lead balance weights on the wheel had fell off and lodged between the caliper and brake disc cover.

I also lost another wheel weight that ended up sitting in the spring retaining plate on the rear shock absorber.

check the pads, the anti squeel pad (the bit the pistons push against) could be u/s. while the pads are out check that the pistons are free, clean the brake disc of any rust on the outer rim, apply a small amount of copperslip to where the piston touches the pad. If your not competant at this type of work pay someone who is, it should'nt cost more than one hours labour but will cost you if you do it wrong!

Got problem sorted it was the plate that covers the back of the front discs which keeps all the muck off the discs, the plate bends back inwards at the bottom to give the steering arm more room,it was touching it at the bottom of the disc.so we you were right Einstein ra.Just got under it and pulled it away from the disc.I still think the speedbumps are to blame! Many thanks to all who replyed.

Glad it's all sorted Andy, sometimes it's little things which cause inexplicable amounts of woe!
