Default sunstrip fitting

i bought a sunstrip from s/n shootout and want to fit it today. i layed it dry on the screen and as the screen is curved it made me go .
is there any special way to fit one, does it need cutting or are you supposed to stretch the lower part to compensate for the curve. bewildering.

Default Sunstrips

I also got one and am the same as you. How? Am I correct in assuming they go on the outside?

yes they do go on the outside. my dilemma is where it meets the roof line is it supposed to be cut to meet the curve or do they stretch to follow the curve. there must be a correct tecnique.

Stick it on then cut it round the edge to the shape of the windscreen using a stanley knife.

Best bet is to lay it on a wet windscreen (so you can move it around if you do it wrong at first) so that the top of the sunstrip is level with the top corners of the windscreen, that way it should look level when you lay it on and smooth it down.

Aaah but James, mine doesnt go the full length of the windscreen tho. So its just a question of centralising isn`t it? And I haven`t got a squeegee to get the bubbles out. Can you suggest an alternative please?

Yup, normally they need trimming to size. If its the first time for applying, get a fine mist bottle with some water in it and add a few drops of washing up liquid.

Spray that on the screen (after youve cleaned it) then peel the backing off and lay the strip down.

While its wet oyu can move it around freely without damaging it. When you have it where you want it you need to squeegy the water out and it will stick. I generally start at the center and work away towards the edges.

When youve dont that peel the backing off carefully. As its been applied wet the decal may try and come back up with it so go easy!

Then trim off the excess with a very sharp hobby knife.

i have a theory.....
1. lay the sunstrip on the screen upsidedown and tape a couple of the edges down when fully centralised.
2. pencil around the top edge to get the shape and remove.
3. cut the excess away with scissors
4. spray the screen and fit as explained.

does this sound any good

I think that we should use a very sharp hobby or stanley knife as scissors can be a bit hit and miss if you know what I mean!!!

I havent seen the ones your fitting but usually they have a backing that the decals adhesive side is stuck to and an application backing stuck ontop. (And Id trim after fitting myself)

i used this method and it worked a treat. im good me. the reason i did this is because i thought it would be difficult to trim around the edges while it was stuck to the screen. this way i trimmed the thing up, placed it on the screen, smiled to myself, sprayed and stuck. all sorted.
