Acknowledging Subaru Ownership
Whats the general view on flashing lights/waving at other Scooby owners. When I got my 1st Scooby 6 years ago it was quite common to acknowledge other owners now I find very few acknowledge back.

I give a wave, some near me wave back, some dont
Most of the local lads round here would know me I think if I was at the roadside in problems, and I can tie some of the lads up to their cars so I think there still is acknowledgement up here

I drive into work now daily and I see the same RB5 & 2 imported WRXs. Neither of the sods wave, flash or anything. Its like they're gormless. I know thats a strong dig and they don't have to but we're still a minority in car terms. In fact of the two Evo drivers I pass daily they always acknowledge me.
I work in Barnet by the way so if any of you owners above are reading this you'd better start being more friendy

i wave at every single one, and it is very very rare that one would wave back. I think the northern ireland scooby owners are ignorant to be honest! Or maybe they just think they are to good to wave, who knows!

I generally wave, and generally get a wave back. However, like said above, the young Chav's don't. I've also found that I look at how old the driver is before I wave. Too old, and I don't bother. Chav mobile and I deffo don't bother.
Nothing worse than waving, and getting no reply.

The thing is, if people don't access the web or this website. Then they wouldn't know about this waving to other owners. When I had a brand new Peugeot 206, 7 years ago. I had people with 206's waving back to me now and again. At that time I hadn't a clue why they were waving, and thought do I know them!?. Then I upgraded to a Scoob MY00 UK Turbo. And the same happened again. Then a year later stumbled across this site, and noticed the 'Was it you' forum. And then it dawned on me, why people were waving at me. The same happens when I wave at other owners. Some don't have a clue, as they probably bought the car, as it's something they wanted due to the iconic status. And don't surf the web.

I agree with jpor.
I used to own one of the first MG metro turbo's and others in simlar cars started waving and flashing me and I kept stopping the car to check I hadn't left the lights on or something. Then I started reading MG owners magazines and read about waving to like-minded individuals. Before I bought my scoob I had alreday been on SN and found out about waving, so now I do it as a matter of course. I assume that those that do not reply either a) haven't seen me, or b) don't know about the 'waving' thing. I don't think you should get upset if someone doesn't respond to your wave or flash.

I drove MG ZS's 180 both models and I would always wave as I went by to another ZS/ZR, 99% of the time it was driven my the saga brigade and they look at me as though I was a buffoon!
So I found out the hard way that hardly anyone of the MG brigade waved!
Must say I did have a good time driving these but as many have said: I have finally grown up!!!!!!!!!!!! And I love my blingy wrx 300. THE best car I have ever driven and it gets many a wave and look and whattttttttttttadrive!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wave at every scoob and Evo under the sun
I even wave at other scoobs going past on the opposite carriageway on motorways ...I mean there is no chance they saw me, but something makes me do it anyway
Maybe because I am just a friendly person and cant help myself (plus I am a bit of loon as well )
Sometimes if the situation is ok, I flash my lights, but am wary of other cars thinking I am letting them out of junctions...
Some wave back, some dont...who cares, its a numbers game, eventually you will get some response.
The only 3 groups of scoob owners who, in my experince, dont wave on principle are:
1. wive's or girlfriends driving their other half's scoob. They just stare at you as though you are a fruitcase.
2. Mr corporate/salesman in company scoob...they just dont bother, so obviously to them they dont get the whole waving thing or are too busy sealing that munich deal with their flashing bluetooth headset to even care.
3. Old scoob drivers....they just dont....

I always try to wave, but of the cars I see on a regular basis less than half acknolwedge. I was up in and around Manchester last weekend, seemed to get far more waves there than I do at home.

Depends on the situation. If I'm stressed and trying to arrange a million things then I'll probably be concentrating on other stuff and not wave! If I'm out on the B roads having a Sunday morning blast then I'll definitely be waving to everyone! If anyone waves at me I'll wave back 100% of the time! Always good to have some fun

I wave all the time, the worst that can happen is they don't wave back and you feel like a ****. Usually they wave back and -in some instances- it seems to make their day!
Personally I quite like "feeling a ****" , so I'm prepared to take the risk!

Waving sorts out the men from the boys
I always wave because its the thing to do. It tells me who understands what owning scoobys is about the only people who dont wave back are chavs who only own a scooby because its a scooby, or because they are too scared to take their hands off the wheel
