Fuel comsumption help
Whats the matter with you you bunch of plums ........... You buy a performance car with 250+bhp and then moan when it does less than 20mpg. Either that or you tell stories of your driving miss Daisy antics so you can say you got an extra 2 miles out of a tank than the last guy.
I would suggest you have bought into the performance car market cheaply. To buy quicker will cost you an extra £10-20K at least. Thats alot of petrol money you can spend.....
If however you dont have that extra money then you are a fool who has bought something you cant afford to run.
Rant over

Hey, I'm not a debt ridden gyp any more, I've just bought one of those Deisel Golf things and have gone from 10mpg in my 03STi to 50mpg overnight.
On the down side overtaking in the Golf is a truely frightening experience as it has a peddle where the accelerator was on the STi which produces extra noise, vibrations and smoke. While this is a nice enough feature to have under the right circumstances it is less than helpful when overtaking. It would have made more sense to fit it will peddles similar to those on a push bike and then the driver, and passengers, could have provided some extra acceleration themselves.
So, the cost of not being a debt ridden gyp is that you have to peddle your own car.

JUST because people own a quick car doesnt mean they want to floor it everywhere as people dont want to waste money!! I for one am not someone who wants to drive slow BUT i still have other things to spend my money on and if I can get an extra 10miles out of a tank because am skint one week I will, nothing wrong with it. I am currently trying to get more than 280miles out of a tank (but the noise just tempts me to push my right foot forward to the floor haha) but I want to prove that IF i need too I can get 350 out of a tank and I think i can, definetly!

When I had my first Impreza a couple of years ago, I did a bit of an experiment.
1st tank:
absolutely floored it everywhere, new toy etc. - 15mpg
2nd tank:
didn't floor it everywhere, took it easy - 18mpg.
So since then and 2 years later on my second scoob - haven't given it a second thought, floor it whenever I want as there is obviously not a lot of point in taking it easy!!
Btw, nearly all my driving is town with some A-roads.

I know what you mean m8 - on my 06 Sti the best i've managed with lots of boring motorway work was 23.5mpg and with proper driving 19-20mpg!

I dont care that i get 20mpg so i wouldn't expect others to care either,
its part of owning an Impreza. Anybody that buys one then moans about mpg obviously didn't do their homework

isn't it more important how quickly you can cover your miles 'per gallon'
Not how many miles per gallon your car does when driving quickly or slowly for that matter.

I don't give a monkeys. My point was that I thought I'd see the difference it would make taking it a bit easier, and it made very little.
So for two years I have driven as fast as I want.
I fill up when its empty, whenever that may be, and its normally about 200 miles for 45 quid - so be it. If I cared about mpg I wouldn't have bought a performance car.

A potential buyer. Or I could just buy something else and just burn my money?

I understand Gutman's point, but frankly, if my fuel bill is likely to go from £100 a month to £250 a month in one fell swoop, then I'll have to make an informed decision etc. Oh, and if anyone seriously thinks (rather than just forum banter) that spending their money on fuel is somehow manly, clever etc, then they are a bit of a prat quite frankly.
No offence, but unlike lots of powerful'ish cars, with a Subaru the general mpg (not 2 or 3 mpg here or there) does seem to be a consideration... although I'm just as concerned with people on here saying that 3-year-old cars need £3,000 spending on them. Uh?
PS. Gutman - you make a good point about having all the performance on tap with ppp wrx or an Sti etc. I need to remember that.
