Subaru or a 'Kwik Fit' type place ???

Rear's are starting to make that 'grinding' noise. Performance is still fine.

I'm happy to get Subaru to check them out/change them, but just wondered if anyone has taken thier 'Scoob' to a mainstream brake specialist.

Dear god, don't use a Kwick Fit type garage. I have sooo many horror stories.... so many.

For example My brother got new disks and pads put on his car by a dealer, he then took the car to Quick Fit for some tyres about 2 weeks later. The guy working on his car told him that his brakes were dangerously worn and needed replaced ASAP at a cost of £400 (Ford Escort!!)

So I went down and kicked up a **** storm I think the guy got the boot

For this very reason I won't let my girlfriend go to one of these Kwick Fit type places on her own. Makes you wonder how much work they do is totally unnecessary. Remember the episode of the Simpsons where Homer gets a voucher to have his wheels balanced for free? When he gets there the guy tells him that his tyres are so dangerous he can't balance them, infact he can't even legally let him leave the tyre centre....

Took my own car to get the wheel alignment done about 6 months ago and as I was paying the guy on the desk was trying to tell me that the front two tyres were badly worn and needed to be replaced. Being sad and **** I had checked the tread depts a few days before and they had around 5mm left. I told him this and he started to go about the fact that they were worn on the edges. I couldn't be bothered to argue with him so just paid the bill and left.

One of friends (who is clueless when it comes to cars) had to replace his front tyres on a Fiat Bravo and went to the first palce he saw. He called me on his mobile and asked me if the price was OK (He had agreed to let them do the work and was in the waiting room). When I told him he was being ripped off and should go somewhere else he queried the price and they immediately dropped it by £60. If they overcharge £30 a tyre think how much extra profit they are making!!

Another one of my friends needed some new tyres for his Peugeot 306 so also took it to a quick fit type place and was told that they didn't have the correct tyres so were putting on tyres ment for a Saab (Never heard that one before) I think they charged him nearly £400 for a set and when I looked at the tyres they were CEAT!!

The only time I would ever set foot in one of these places is when I had agreed on the phone before exactly what tyres I wanted and exactly how much they were going to cost.

Go to Tyres Northampton -- I tried in vain to get Kwik-Fit and ATS to look at the rears on my Scoob and in the end drove to TN. It took two hours to get there, but that was less than the time I'd wasted with the local places. I phoned Mark in advance and made sure he had all the flavours of rear pads for a MY00 before I turned up -- job was done in 10 minutes.
