Default offset on wheels

Can someone explain offset please ? I looked at my WRX my04(blobeye) standard alloy wheels to check the size. stamped on the inside is 55, is that the offset? The wheels are also pcd 5*100 and have 45/17/215 tires on. I want to upgrade wheels to 18", I know you have to have the right size off set to clear the disc calippers,my wrx does not have the gold brembo calippers on it.

Cheers

Tim

Offset is the difference between the mounting face of the wheel and the actual centreline of the wheel. The 55 mark is the offset amount.
PCD is the "pitch circle diameter" of the studs ie the diameter of the circle that the studs are located on.
To go to 18's you would need 215/40 - 18 to retain similar rolling radius.

You need 225/40/18 tyres. If you look on Subaru UK site you can see the wheel/tyre packages listed. I did exactly what you want to do on a WRX03. Its only the STI where the offset really matters due to the Brembo calipers.

Default offset on wheels

Thanks guys, one more question, what if don't want offical subaru or prodrive wheels, are there limits( a range) that need to be applied on the offset to make sure that the wheel will not foul on the brake caliper ? i.e would an offset of 42 still be ok on WRX MY04?
