Default Dump valve fuel loss

Prob been covered before but couldnt find a accurate answer so does fitting a dump valve use more fuel, got 1 on my MY99 and getting around 22mpg and was wondering if this was part of the reason .

cheers

Out of curiosity mate, why do you say that??

Do they not offer any kind of advantage on a Scoob engine??

No advantage unless the OE recirc item can't cope with increased boost levels on heavily modified cars. Lots of disadvantages though

Could you please give a quick round up of the disadvantages please mate?

I'd always though that dump valves were of a benfit to turbocharged engines

dont listen to them bud, if u like it keep it on, i have a forge one on mine and i like the sound of it so its stayin on.

the dump valve u have on ya car is basicly the same as a the OE one, but the OE one dumps the air back in to your induction pipe and the one u have dumps the air to the atmosphear, thats y its louder.
the is no performance gain, or MPG loss as they both stay closed when cruising

PS i aint a chav.

also i think my car needs it anyway as its at 1.4bar

It's not me who's got the DV fitted mate

I'm still waiting for my STI to be delivered

I was just curious as to why someone would say that you shouldn't use a VTA DV on a turbo'd car like a Scoob.

Personally, I'll be happy with fitting a panel filter and exhaust and getting the increased noise that way

There's info in there for removal of the intake resonator. If you do this then you will benefit from cooler running, earlier spool up, and audible induction and DV. Takes about half an hour and is improved with a free flowing panel, so the total cost is IRO £40 and is completely safe to the engine.

Yeah I also had a read of that post, very detailed and informative, only problem is I don't really want to start taping things up (even though I know it's only minor things) etc etc on a brand new car that's costing me an arm and a leg to buy.

I'll be taking the car to Powerstation for their 340 package so I'll see what they say about doing this for me.

Even if the resonator is left in place and just a free flowing panel is fitted would there be a slight increase in induction noise and and an audible (if anything) DV noise?

My GTO has been running a LOUD, yes LOUD dump valve for 20k now without any problems,It was dyno'd last year at 407 bhp/399lbft,And i would stick my neck out here to say that it picks up between the gears better than it did with the standard recirc....
So roll on june when I can wheel the old girl out of the garage and start scaring the young and infirm! LOL

Yep!!

May as well wave it bye-bye now!

Before the 340 pack will be the AST's though. I've always been a big supporter of that old cliche 'power is nothing without control'

AP 6 pots are also taking my fancy as well.

Arrgghh!! Why are there so many nice mods out there to tempt me!!

What do you do with the air temp sensor in a MY99 STI if you want to remove the air scoop and resonator. The sensor is fitted in the scoop behind the headlight ?

The problem is with VTA dump valves the charge that is dumped has been metered so the ECU will be fueling for the charge that has been vented..
