Default New owner requiring tips

Hi all first post on the forum but i've been reading posts for a couple of months now. Just got my 53 plate WRX 222 bhp. It was either this or a RX8, final desion was made due to the scooby being cheaper. Excellant car the RX8 especially the beep at 9000rpm to tell you to change gear. Just wondered what is the best rpm to change up a gear in my WRX for maximum performance. My mate reckons it may be best not to redline it and instead change gear earlier.

Thanks Jimpreza

Hi there Jimpreza and welcome!

The beep to change gears on the RX is just a bi-product of capitalism - meaning you don't really need it, but its nice to have one, because it makes the car seem more sophisticated and may impress the birds ( if you have one) . ..

However, in an Imprezza, change gear abt 500 rpm prior to redline for optimum torque!

Enjoy the car mate!

Stay away from the limiter if you don't want a rebuild bill, and if you can drive. Peak torque is around 6k revs and anything above that and you're in diminishing torque. If you change up just after 6k you should be back to around 4k in the next gear and in rapidly building torque once more. If you string it out to 7k you will be at 5k after the gear change, giving you less time in building torque, and thus slower. It may seem quicker when you can hear the engine screaming towards the redline, but it usually isn't.

corradoboy's right, stay away from the limiter unless you want to part with another 2k+ for a rebuild. I'm guessing you have a (very slightly) modified wrx, which will run out of puff at about 6k anyway.
