Cool Modification recommendations?

Getting my WRX tonight its a import (jap) what mods (if any) would you recommend?

I want to use it every day so it needs to be reliable?

Thanks

Hello mate !

The first mods are usually a high flow panel filter and a full deact exhaust
system, this will help the car breath a lot better and release a few extra
horses.

Next if you can afford it is the ECU, as you have a Jap import you will need
to run it on super unleaded and octane booster, because your car will be
mapped for 100 ron fuel.

The 'in' ECU at the moment seems to be the Apexi Power FC which can be
supplied and mapped for around £800.

Or, you could get your existing ECU chipped.

To be honest, get used to the car first and then decide what you want.

Enjoy

whilst you are getting used to the car as mentioned make sure you use super unleaded at the very least. personally i would use optimax and booster until i get a remap. Been a few stories on here of clueless dealers filling up their WRX's with tesco normal unleaded and killing the engine through det.

ocatain booster increase the ron of the fuel, aka how smooth it burns, too low octain can damage engine due to it not burning smoothly. remapping changes the timing allowing the unsmooth burn to be taken into account so not damaging the engine.

jap fuel is much higher ron that anything on the uk, so adding the booster to optimax brings it up to jap spec fuel.

hope that helps J

Octane booster, liquid additive that you usually add to a full tank of petrol to increase the octane rating. For example optimax is 98 octane, if you add a decent booster you would be looking at 100 octane. Really expensive boosters can add even more values.

I have a verII WRX aswell, and run it on supermarket 99octane. Optimax is fine as well (if not better).
As far as tuning goes, it should be fast enough for a little while.... A decat and filter will help, then you're on to ECU (PFC or ScoobyECU - if you can find one).

In all cases of owning an import, use an octane booster.

This will ensure no detonation takes place within the cylinders.

Det will kill your engine within seconds !!

1) Get used to the car
2) Fit a Knock Link and Boost Guage
then consider carefully what you want in terms of drivability and practicality and what you want to spend. If the car is in good condition and evertything is as it should be then you might then consider, in the following order:
Full 3" exhaust system and downpipe. Select something with proven performance gains.
K+N or STi Panel filter.
Properly ported headers and matched up-pipe.
You could now consider a modest boost uplift using a GBE valve but only if the person fitting it knows what they are doing and can check your AFRs with a wide band lambda.
Anything you can do to reduce under bonnet or charge temperatures will be beneficial.
Done properly the above will result in a gain of 30-50 bhp for least expenditure and make the car crisper and nicer to drive.
Consider the addition of a Walbro fuel pump as yours will get tired with the increased demands on it, particularly on older vehicles.
Enjoy.
