Default Advise on odd spec import models

My colleague at work has decided that his Golf 130 TDI isn't doing it for him anymore. So he wants to get a Impreza Turbo, but he wants a blob eye STI for £8k-£9k

So - he has found this car, and me personally I wouldn't touch a Jap import, but that's me. So he has found what appears to be a bargin. Can anyone add comment re the following car:

Sometimes a good this but often a bad thing, if it needs a few unfinished jobs to complete then if it was me i would complete them and sell the car for a bit more £££'s or just to make it an easy sale. But thats just me

Sounds pretty ropey then. How do people feel about the tiptronic bit in general ?

P.S Is £9k MAX too little for a blob eye STI ?

Yep - £13500 for a mid to high milage IMO or you are buying a dog.

Ok

So to get a £9k low millage minter, is he realistically looking at a bug eye WRX ? Or can he get in bug eye STI for that ?

it has bugeye rear lights, its a 51 plate (both suggesting its a bugeye), blobeye front lights, blobeye "WRX" scoop....and foglights (both of which suggest its not an STI either.....

avoid!

Yep you'd get a decent milage well cared for 51 plate WRX for that, there have been a few on here at 8500 to 9500 lately with under 40k on the clock and FSSH

Cheers for the input so far. I think my colleague like the idea of a UK 300. Better looking than a stock WRX but not STI money. Sensible choice ?

Because there were only 300 made they are a rarity, so yes it should hold its price better. Still just the same power as a standard one though.

http://pistonheads.com/sales/81244.htm

Right then, the chap in question is getting organised now. Is looking for something around the £8k - £9k mark i guess. He isn't a massive fan of the stock bug eye WRX - but will consider some modified examples - STI is preference, UK300 i think is a nice in between model that might be realistically what he is looking for. Either way, post your suggestions.

Ta
