Default 277 to 295 disc conversion

Can anyone help with this, I have bought 295mm discs and pads to suit a new pair of Subaru 4 pot calipers, on looking at the discs on my car (MY98 16" rims) there is a cover at the back of them, does this need to be replaced also or is it ok to be left in place.

I upgraded from 280mm 2 pots to 294mm 4 pots on mine and I left the old guard in place. It's smaller obviously but works just fine for me.

you could always just take the guards off. I did when I put AP's on mine & never have had any problems.

Martin, as already said, it's basically your choice, the bigger brakes will fit fine with the shields in place, of if you want a tad more cooling, remove them..... three 10mm bolts from memory...... but one or two may well shear off due to age!"

Does that mean you have a my98 car with 16" rims or that your car is
fitted with original my98 rims (ie sti)

The reason I say this, is that not all 16" rims will fit 4 pot calipers.

The offset needs to be right, if they are original Subaru wheel you'll
be OK.

my98 wheels fit over 4 pots. They are the 5 spokes like they fitted to the sti 3 aren't they?

New calipers and discs fitted and they are great compared to the two pots, cheers for the advice.
