fuel warning light & consumption
Got a standard 99 turbo about a year ago. When i was test driving others before settling on the one i got the fuel warning light come on on 2 cars. I have ever had it go on in this one and it has been nearly hitting the empty line 2 or 3 times. Is the light standard or is it only some models?? I dont kno if the light has burnt out or what or if i got a dodgy fuel gauge. I was also told that it should hold 60 litres is that right, when I fill it up from near empty the most i have got in it is 45 litres.
Thanx

Newer dash (98>) has a low fuel light, old dash (>97) doesn't. On mine, the light comes on when there's 2 gallons (9l) left in the tank (needle is between E and 1/2).
MY99 UK turbo should have a 60l tank, so filling up with 45l means there's ~15l in the tank, which is probably why you're not seeing a low fuel light.

Got a MY99 STI and have never managed to get the fuel light on that to come on. It definitely has one as I had the instrument binnacle out and saw the lamp. However even when needle is nearly on E no light ? I still only get approx 47 litres in when filling up. I daren't go much lower.
I have never been able to put more than 45 litres in when the gauge is touching the bottom, is that normal, having around 10-15 litres when the needle hits the empty? or does the light only come on when the needle hits and / or goes below the empty line?
Oh nearly forgot how much should u usually get out of 40-45 litres of petrol, I drive it nomally, did get about 220 miles for about £40 of petrol, got the service done this month now its gone up to 250 just wondering if thats about right.

Have a look in the service manuals.
