Default Quick TMIC question

At what BHP would you recommend changing the TMIC on an MY06 STI??

Is it worth upgrading to say either an APS large size TMIC or the Pace TMIC with intergrated charge cooler or going for a FMIC??

As soon as you start any mods....the MY06 intercooler is small by any standards!

Yeah I figured this. At what BHP do you think it'll start losing it's ability to keep the charge temps down?

Isnt the 06 ic the same size as the 04?

If so should be good for 350bhp. I am running 385bhp with an WRC top mount (same size as an APS).

Would suggest you keep the old one or change it to a larger TMIC, Unless you are planning to go over 300BHP, If you are then, upgrade to a good FMIC is a must.

If you are not going to go over 300BHP then its a waste of a lot of money.

I will defnitely be going over 300BHP that's for sure mate but I obviously want to keep the charge temps as cool as poss. What about the Pace TMIC?? It has an integrated charge cooler or should I not bother and just go for an FMIC??

I would say a FMIC is the best bet, good for charge temps and looks the dogs too. If you were ever going to do nitrous you would be able to get the injectors a good 10'' from the throttle body which is hard with a TMIC!. My mate has just fitted his FMIC and it is excellent, he has other mods too so needs a remap.

His was an APC one

The TMIC on the Newage cars is quite effecient.... especially when moving.

I have no such charge temp issues with running a MY03 one on my modified Spec C, which is currently over 380bhp. Apparently the MY05> TMIC is slightly more effecient then my current one.

I will be seeing how far the standard TMIC (both MY03 & MY05, MY06) is in future tests within the Newage Modification Articles being produced within these forums.

Doing such events as the 1/4 mile, a FMIC will have it's benefits...... but don't assume a TMIC is not good...... especially concerning the power outputs discussed here.

Regards,
Shaun.

Anything up to 400bhp on a Newage and you're STANDARD TMIC should do fine.

Save you're money and spend it on other worth while mods!

Regards,
Shaun.

Have you any results in what would happen if on a newage blobeye 05 WRX you were to go up to the STI size scoop? Keeping the TMIC of course, and adding a few normal mods, i.e exhaust filter, de cat and what not.

No, Sorry..... All the testing I have been doing is based on an STi (well Spec C, but in this instance it makes no difference).

Apologies for any confusion, but any of my replies are based on that STi TMIC set-up.
