Hi all,
I've been lurking on here for a few weeks now and also doing some research on buying my first ever Subaru
I've decided on a brand new WRX 4dr which I will be importing from Holland (RHD) and hopefully saving myself about £4k.
Before I place the order with the dealer I have some questions on options.
1) I need to know what the standard dashboard interior looks like as I have been offered a 'carbon fibre look' for an extra £270
2) Can I buy the clear side indicators over here in the UK?
3) Wheels! where do I start, ideally I would like Gold wheels but the choice is to much, can anyone tell me what the wheels are on the WRC rally car (10 spoke gold) as I would like them.

Thanks very much for any help given, roll on April 2002

Danny,

If you've not tried Gertjan v.d. Velde in Holland give him a ring. Definitely recommended - I and many others on here have bought cars from him.

The OZ P1 wheels are only available from Subaru dealers and come in 17" or 18" - colours Gold or Anthracite. From memory the 17" wheels are around £200 each, the 18" are around £300 each. You should get a reasonable price for the wheels you take off which will offset the cost.

Cheers,

Ian.

Seem to remember the white indicators are in the latest UK accessory brochure. Read that a lot before mine arrived, not much since!

Thanks for the help, I've managed to discover that the wheels are called 18" Prodrive OZ Racing 10 spoke alloys, with 225/40ZR18 Pirelli PZero tyres on.
Gertjan van der Velde can sort me out a deal by exchanging the originals and paying an extra £500, does this seem ok
Is the importing business fairly straight forward, I pay £2300 now, then the balance when the car arrives, he gives me all the paperwork and some trade plates for the drive accross Holland.
I exit dover and see Customs and find out how much I owe, then the following day I go to my local VRO and fill out more paperwork, and eventually pay the fecking VAT
or is it more complicated than that?
I am contemplating paying a broker £195 and having none of the hassles except driving home.
Cheers

The deal on the OZ's looks ok, I've seen a set new for around £1100 so that gives you £500+ trade in on your std 17"ers, which is ok. As far as importing that's pretty much it, sod paying some dealer to do to for you, you'll need that money for fuel for the first day or so when u get the car, having said that £200 quid isn't a bad price.

BTW dont know from experience, but I've seen a number of bad write ups on the PZEROS on the bbs so it might be worth while trying to get different tyres supplied on the OZ's if possible.

Danny, a mate of mine has had two cars off Van der Velde and had no bother with either. I met him when we were in Holland, in my opinion the guy is a star!

Thanks for the advice, I've spoken to him on the phone and he seems very confident that the paperwork is all self explanatory, he reckons if you can apply for a UK passport you can import a car.
I looked at the carbon fibre dash today at a dealers Nr Reading, yuck, didn't like it at all I'm afraid.
I pissed the salesman off by telling him that I was importing a car from holland and almost got ejected from the showroom floor
Other than that, my mind is now 99% sure Holland is where I'm getting it from.
Just had a really good insurance quote aswell from www.elephant.co.uk £815 Fully Comp, 28 years old, £250 excess.
Cheers
Dan

Danny,
exiting Dover, just go straight home !!
Customs arent interested in you (yet!). when you visit your vro, they will fill a form out for you and send it to the vatman. a couple of weeks later the vat bill arrives
